What laptop to buy?
I'm considering a mini laptop for some logging... I need a WB02 I think now. Dell has one for 229.00, which is the cheapest i've seen. Obviously I only need it for logging and getting online, but that's basically it. Anyone know of a better price for a nice laptop?
I assume you're talking about the Inspiron Mini? They're nice little Netbooks, and for all you're looking to do, a great choice. They'd be a bit underpowered for anything outside the Netbook realm, but that's a given, and doesn't really seem to matter for you.
You can also just scour Ebay for used laptops; Dell Latitude is the "business line" of Dell, and similar lines exist for other manufacturers.
Personally, I use an older D420 for logging/flashing, and it works great. For example: http://cgi.ebay.com/Dell-D420-Intel-...item1e5c003875 (this link will be dead eventually, oh well), but for ~280, it's a lot "better" of a laptop than the Mini you're thinking of. But the Mini is smaller, and a bit cheaper.
Hell, for 230 bucks, get the damn Mini, it'd be stupid to try to find a used beater laptop for what you're doing.

i been using a acer 1401. faster and better then a netbook, not quite a notebook. has a intel core 2 solo. they also have the core 2 duo version acer 1801
11.6" screen makes it more usable then a netbook since you dont have to scroll for every damn thing.
i think i seen it go for $320 or so but dont remember, i paid $420ish when it first came out.

The Asus EEE 1001p is one of the best netbooks on the market right now. The long battery life made it very appealing for logging purposes. Check out: http://www.anandtech.com/show/2965/a...rite-netbook/1
If you got big hands, DO NOT get the 10" or smaller ones. Get something that's 11+ inches and up. The biggest netbooks are 12". I have a 10" HP one from Costco and it sucks, its going back this week. I'm getting the more expensive MSI U230 since I'm also an avid AMD follower and I need the flash playback capability + hdmi. Anyway, just get a 11" or up model is all I'm saying.
Besides, I already have the evoscan GPS unit for regular logging.

Check woot or craigslist for netbooks... theres always good deals floating around.
I love the idea for everything but map tracer. The timing table for the X is too big for my 14" laptop, let alone a netbook.

I just want to be able to get an LC-1 to go along with the AP.. I wish there were just some sort of card or someone I could log the info onto and wouldn't have to worry about the damn laptop.
Same machine as I use. Nice screen, half-way decent computing power, small, light, reliable, and relatively inexpensive. I also picked-up a DC/DC car adapter and an extra AC/DC adapter for less than $15 each on Ebay. The laptop fits in the glovebox (don't know about the X) - the connectors for the W/B and Tactrix cable are already there - gets plugged into the cig lighter, and logs forever. What's not to like?

Edit: oops sorry.. it's 4.7 out of 5 stars with 139 reviews lol.

Most of the keyboards on the 10" models are "full size" keyboards (92% or greater to standard size)... they don't have to shrink until 9". I am 99% sure that any of the HP, dell, or Acer ones that have come out in the last year or two are all full size keyboards. Usually they just shrink the wide keys at the edges. I have very large hands and had no problems whatsoever on a 10"

They say full size, but they do not have any of the page up or page down etc buttons. To me, full size is what I'd find on a regular laptop. What they have on the HP netbook I have is NOT full size even though they call it that. To me, that's a big issue since I use the page up and page down buttons a lot including "end", "home" etc. The MSI has that last set of keys that makes navigating so much easier. But if you don't depend a lot on these buttons, I agree, the smaller netbooks will do you just as good, if not better.

I went with an HP for my tuning laptop. Small, decent processor speed, you can get SSD Hard drives for faster accessing files and they are rather cheap. I have zero complaints with it so far.
