I heard that Akuma Motorsports in New Jersey might be having a weekend course on learning how to tune this summer. I research and research and research and read and read and read and had guru's look over my map and answer all my not dumb questions. It takes time, lots of it if you have no knowledge on it like i did.

Sweet good to know. I have a pretty good understanding of the systems and operations. I am a mechanic and have went to school and I have been around it a little. I would like to test on my Bike or my Evo. Its good to know there are people out there that are willing to help. Thanks again. anymore info would be greatly appreciated.

I am lucky when i had my suabru my tuner let me ride shot gun on the dyno and showed me the basic idea and how to use all the tools properly. He built my base map but i am able to make changes and tweek stuff like new injectors, I email him all the time with questions. A good relationship with someone who has experence is really helpful

Good to know. I guess I need to move out of Wyoming and talk to a few tune shops.

i would suggest spending hours, days, months, years reading the information on this site. There is so much good (and sometimes bad) info on this site its ridiculous. go to the ecuflash and check out the sticky threads as a start. They have guides, videos, everthing.
Good luck

I just started doing it about 10 years ago with an ultra basic 5-knob S-AFC on a 1G DSM.

Yup,

Read, read, read, read some more. Try some things without flashing.

Read, read, read... try some minor things and flash

Monitor, research, read. Repeat.

That is probably your best bet if you are interested in only the evo, however it won't teach you tuning... it will only teach you how to tune an Evo with the stock ECU. If you don't have an understanding of concepts and targets you may get into some trouble.

These two books are decent:
http://www.amazon.com/Modify-Managem.../dp/0760315825
http://www.amazon.com/Engine-Managem...3832902&sr=8-1

...but there is also alot of great information on the internet. Pick a topic and research it and you will get there, but the information on the web is spread out and not organized in a concise manner.

You can also read through some of the old vfaq and 1000aaq for DSMs.

Same here...TMO Logger and AFC, then just moved on to DSMLink and now ECUFlash...

3D Maps takes a little getting used to...but not bad.
