Rear 02 CEL's on 2011 and up: Test Pipe and Cobb

I'm getting ready to start ordering parts and have discovered some disconcerting info regarding Test Pipes/Turbo Back Exhausts and associated CEL's on 2011 and up model years with the Cobb AP. According to Cobb, these model years seem much more sensitive to throwing rear 02 CEL's and it appears to be an ongoing battle with them coming on and having to turn them off quite often. Is anyone running a test pipe, and/or tuboback without any CEL issues? I am going to have my car Pro Tuned and have heard that if the rear 02 is disabled, you must leave the heater circuit turned on or the sensor will deteriorate. Is this really the case? Essentially, I want to run a turbo back exhaust, with a Cobb AP and Pro Tune, and I don't EVER EVER want to deal with any damn CEL's or a burned up rear 02 sensor!!! Is this even possible? Is there anyone out there that has never thrown one of these CEL's?

I wonder if I just say screw it and get a Cat Back and Pro Tune??

I just installed a test pipe/catback on my car and flashed stage 2 - i got the CEL (P2096 i believe). In my search, it seems like quite a few people have experienced this, and after HFC install, it went away.. some said they downloaded something on the ap to disable the rear o2.
Called cobb, they told me it was because i need a HFC instead.

catback only won't really do anything. save your money on the pro tune if you only got a catback..
if you have a turbo-back, you can flash stage 2 tune for free. no need for any pro tune for where you're at.

jeffo24, I was afraid of that and it really pisses me off. Seems like we are stuck fighting this. I guess Ill go with just a cat back. I still want to get Pro Tuned; I just don't trust the OTS maps. I want to see my car on the dyno and know exactly what's going on with my tune. That $500 buys a lot of piece of the mind. Now, all I've got to do is find a tuner....

i agree with you on the peace of mind... but if i were you i'd get the HFC also before the tune so you dont have to pay for 2 tunes. HFC gives you way more power gain than a catback. Plus, if you only have a catback that's proven to be the one mod that's safe to drive with stock tune.

heck if i were you i'd flash stage 1. That map worked wonders for me, datalogs looked great, and it made my car so much more fun to drive.

I have an AMS downpipe and test pipe to an agency power catback and I am currently battling the cel issue, I put and cel fix on the test and still it comes on I'm getting 2 codes thrown one is p0420 and the the other is a P0420 P. I'm guessing it's just cause of the test pipe could it be something else? I'm also guessing that the little p on the second code means permanent?

I was hoping someone from Cobb would report in... If the test pipes throw the CEL what about high flow cats? And which ones would work? 100 cell, 200 cell, different brands, etc...

mine threw a CEL on a HFC so i just disabled rear 02 and removed the sensor from my car.

i use open source, but i had to disable rear o2 and turn off the specific code i was getting. it's fine now.

running an AMS downpipe, AMS High flow cat, and Perrin Catback with the vibrant 02 spacer, Never thrown a CEL. The ams cat is a 300 cell I believe.

This is with a Cobb-based Pro Tune? How long have you been running this combo? Folks, we may have a compatible setup!!

I had the same TBE exhaust on my MR and now on my GSR. My 2008 MR never threw a single code with the stage 2 OTS maps. My 2010 GSR kept throwing P2096 with my test pipe every 50kms! I added an O2 spacer/mechanical fix and it comes on only once in a blue moon now. Hope this helps!!

COBB should just acknowledge that we drive EVO's and most of us run testpipes. They are looking into disabling the dreaded P2096, but for now you have to live with it if you have a newer model!

Bingo. And the 2011's and up are even more sensitive than the '10's. Cobb has entered the Fairy Land of GT-R's and BMW's... I think we are low man on the ECU totem pole now.

No arguments there! I am glad that they're still supporting the Evo X! I'd be mad if I had a IX and bought an AP only to have no support after they discontinued that line! Same goes for the Civic Si that they used to support

Wait, so adding the 02 spacer eliminated the problem, kinda sorta? Could the bung on my test pipe be the problem? (not spaced correctly).. sorry for noob. I had my TP custom welded with tthe bung. Wonder if i'd gone with a reputable brand test pipe if i wouldn't have had this problem?
Or does it not matter? Is this mechanical, or is it an issue with the OTS tune that can be fixed with a custom tune?
Will running the same OTS stage 2 with a HFC eliminate the CEL entirely?
