Asking for a refund on a tune. Question in short up top ;)
Asking for a refund on a tune. Question in short up top ;)
First off: I hope this is in the right section mods. I have a Ralliart that had an X turbo swap with supporting mods. I posted here due to higher traffic and the fact that my rom is more similar to an X than a Ralliart's.
I'll post pics of my dyno, the uicp issues, the battery rewire when I'm home..I'm at work on my cell.
IF YOU DON'T WANT TO READ, QUESTIONS IS:
Is asking for a refund acceptable after gross incompetence, negligence, poor work, not doing a tune properly, making me drive 240 miles for no reason? I paid for install and extra parts so they won't be losing money on me.
FOR THE BORED OR THOSE WHO NEED TO WORK ON THEIR ATTENTION SPANS:
So I found a tuner based off of some local Facebook group's advice on who to go to. They were close and seemed to specialize in evos, so perfect.
-First time going there, I went because they told me to go once I got my parts to make sure I had everything. They said awesome, you have everything. Called after a few days and they said no turbo inlet. My shipper I bought it from could've sent it down earlier but at this point it'll take too long. Didn't catch that when I went in the first time..what was the point of going? Okaaayy.
-Later in that conversation, they tell me they NEED to relocate the battery now. Also, apparently my stock air intake is incompatible so they install an AEM cold air box. Seemed different than most x swaps I'd heard of. Wanted to do this eventually anyways when I had more money so not a huge biggey..
-After all is said and done, time to pick up my car. Called, said I'd be there in an hour, get there an hour and 15 mins later, no ones home. Okaaayy. I have work and my ride needs to go. Finally, 20 mins later, taadaa! They went to lunch -_-'. Look at the dyno, numbers look good. Ask them to send it (took 2 weeks, a couple phone calls, an email, a couple face to faces but finally got it..) they told me to post in the forums, but after the following issues I had, decided to not bash and rather just forget. However, all these initial 'bumps' with the following problems, I would like a refund for my tune.
Other, more serious, issues (and incompetence?):
-before going on a road trip, motor was acting VERY badly. On high boost, motor would seize up, almost like it was slipping. Took it in, they looked it over, did some 3rd gear WOT pulls, couldn't recreate it. Came and left pointlessly (2nd time SO FAR) with a car that wasn't acting right (probably great for my motor right?) From the vibe I got, they almost didn't believe me. Posted up on here and within an hour, got it sorted out thanks to Richard and a few others. My boost load limit was too low.
-In my post regarding the seizing issue, Richard told me my boost solenoid settings looked stock, or stockish, despite having a 3-port installed. Also, my waste gate tables were off. Who knows what else??
-Car makes a weird sounds, like when you cover a vacuum hose minus one part, but it goes in an out. Not regular. Like its straining or is not smoothly taking in air. The woosh I like, the woosh going in n out? Not so much. Probably has to do with my tables being off.
-Next, doing some wiring, I had to tap into my battery's power. Looked at the re-wire job they did in the engine, and it looked like a 2nd grader could've made it cleaner. I'll take pics but un-bolting the battery lug the wire came out. Don't know if it was the factory crimp job or theirs, but it sucked. Re-did it and tidied it up. Ground wires were left uncovered, dangerously close to my + wire.
-Redoing the wiring I noticed that the soft UICP that connects to the hard piping of the IC isn't even attached past the second bump. Reading a few guides, I think the soft pipe is supposed to cover BOTH bumps connecting to the IC to prevent boost leak. Come on, this isn't even RA specific, right??!?
-I remembered they didn't charge me for X spark plugs walking down pepboys, called to see, was told I didn't need them with my turbo. I said uhh yes. They said you have stock X turbo, so mine are the same. Told them RA's are a step hotter. Them: uhh are you sure? Me: uhh yes? So that might cause issues. I told two people three times that I needed X plugs.
-Oh, and they left some stuff out of my car when they did the battery so now I need to go again (3rd pointless time).
-At this point, my car sounds funny/strained accelerating, I've been told by reputable tuners here that my rom needs changing (as if the tuner just didn't bother with certain tables? At least 3-4 that I KNOW of), they made me go in for no reason 3 times (once to verify parts which they didn't do, once to fix the problem that they didn't fix and I had to with help from you guys and once to get the stuff they forgot to put back in. That's an extra 240 miles worth of gas and 5-6 hours of MY time wasted. They didn't put the right plugs in.
I spent about $1100 on extra parts and labor for install not including tune. Tune was 400. I want to ask for $350-400 back, they aren't losing money on me as they did the install work and sold me parts which they surely made money off of. Think this is reasonable?
With the money refunded ,I'd like to get a hiflow cat and go to a more reputable tuner/company to tune it properly ASAP. I like to drive 'spiritedly' but don't feel comfortable with the work and don't want to break my car having fun on a bad tune/install.
Thanks for reading through this if you did

I would talk with the owner and demand a refund. File a BBB report

Thanks everyone. I will call them Tuesday after Labor Day and ask for a refund on the tune. With the money I can get a retune.
And Baka, I was interested in your help. I think I'd like to take my car in to you guys for the retune. Richard said some good things about you, so I feel confident that you guys will do a good job
