I said "looks" like it. Hard to tell from a 2D picture. In any case, I think the filter costs too much. What are the power gains for said filter?

The Works filter has a bit more working area than the K&N on the 8/9. I'd assume this carries over to the X too. On the 8/9, K&N's have shown 3-5whp peak, with up to 8whp max gain from what I've seen. So figure a little bit more for the Works. It's probably a reasonable assumption that the gains on the X will be similar to those on the 8/9.

As for cost, it's only too expensive if supply is exceeding demand. Considering there was more demand than supply on the filters for the 8/9, the price is not too high according to the market.

I'd spend MAYBE $60 for said filter. Otherwise, I can put the $130 towards something that will give more meaningful gains.

Well, right now there isn't much of anything you can buy

A say about 6 months and we should have an array of decent parts.

Well, I can see that there's about a 20-30 hp gain, which is inline with the gains seen by intake systems from the other manufacturers because of how rich the car is from the factory. SPDARacerut, look at all of the tuning tests from shiv at vishnu, AMS, and AGP. They all say that intakes gain about 30 hp because the X runs INCREDIBLY rich from the factory. The gains that the X are making with simple bolt ons is blowing away what the 8 and 9 made. Man, how could you not know this? It's all over the forums.

BTW Jamie, could you post the actual numerical gains, and test a k&n to compare. Because no offense, but if the k&n makes the same hp for 40 bucks than that's where my money is going to go until full intake kits are available from ams and turbo trix, OR YOU GUYS, if the parts make comparable gains and look good. Hey underhood style is important too, guys.

Honestly, we'd love to do a comparison with other filters, just like we did with the previous EVO filter, but I haven't seen another drop-in available aside from the OEM and we're flowing twice as much as it. Even if others were available, I'd expect pricing to be more inline with the previous version (which generally list for over $100 as well). Flow data showed us outperforming other paper, cotton and foam-based units on the previous version and would expect similar results this time around as we've maintained our manufacturing guidelines of the filter element and would suspect others to have done the same. Pricing and performance aren't the only factors here. Quality of component used also play a role. The WORKS filter features a uniform cotton fabric, not the uneven gauze or foam found elsewhere. This ensures consistent filtration with the ability to capture minute particles.

Fair enough, but could you post the numerical gains of the filter? I can see from the dyno graph that it's somewhere around 20-25, but can't tell for sure. Oh, and BTW, the K&N drop in replacement is the exact same as the regular lancer, as I believe it's the same exact size filter. Check it out. Oh, and until I get an intake system for the car, a drop in sounds nice to tide me over for a bit. I will consider your product.

Official numbers are +27 HP @ 5600 RPM and +13 TQ @ 4300 RPM. There are gains throughout the powerbands. Even "smoothing" the baseline graph to account for the hiccup when using the OEM filter, we're looking at 40+/30+ TP/TQ at 7K (or 60+/60+ if you want to use the skewed data plot).

Yes, the Lancer and EVO are sharing the same filter just as with the previous Lancer/EVO, but I still haven't see any other applications available aside from WORKS and Mitsubishi.
