Difference in intake designs

Alright I'm considering buying my intake this week and started really looking into the two main one's I'm considering. How much of a difference if any does the location of the cone filter play in the gains? Does the length of tubing from the MAF back effect anything? I'm torn between the AMS and the Buschur and really like both and they both make good gains just looking for some added insight as to how the intake design effects the overall performance of the intake.

Do I need to run an MBC to smooth the curve with a intake kit?

Lastly and fairly unrelated but from an aesthetic point of view does the "polished" version of the AMS piping match the "polished" Buschur piping? I just want everything to flow visually under the hood and am curious if they will match up together if I'm using different companies hard pipe kits. Thanks! ~Trent
