Ams Cai

AMS CAI review.

Rating (1-10): 10. What could make this better, its huge, it works, it moves air, its a fair price, and what looks better than

polished metal underneath the hood of a X.

Power boost: Well, I don't have open access to a dyno, so trips will be scarce, but the improvement is noticeable.

Sound: Amazing, you can really hear the Turbo Spool up now, and the stock BOV still recirculates but is audible, very audible.

My fuel economy improved when I drive normal, but I keep hitting the gas and trying to keep the car b/w 3k-4.5k so that I can hear

the turbo and BOV.

Lows: It takes time to get one, but it is worth the wait

I like the factory clamps better than some of the ones that come with the CAI

Notes: Be sure to order an oil Catch can with this, do not spend the extra $50 on the breather bungs, you don't want to

recirculate oil into the intake, this is the perfect opportunity to switch to this setup.

Ease of Installation: simple, like a 2 (only because its not as easy as putting in floor mats)

what comes in the box:

Ebay special oil catch can:

I wish they offered one piece. Although it's clean I don't like that weld...one single tube would have looked much better...I think That's why I'm going ETS...still undecided though.

Looking through the inside of the pipe (where it matters) you cannot even tell there is a weld, so from a function, rather than form, standpoint the weld is moot.

oil comes from the valve cover vent (PCV) which returns into the Intake from factory, this will foul intake/ignition over time. Catch can prevents this

CAI has better flow than stock pipes.

Looks great. Definitely one of the more thought out designs.

K&N-Excellent write up and pictures are perfect! Is catch can the red topped cyclinder just behind the headlight assembly? A little fooled because your picture of same isolated does not show a red surface on either end of the can.

So I guess you do not care that intercooler efficiency of thermal exchange will go down as well as engine bay getting coated in oil?
