Who makes a clutch for this thing
Does anyone know who makes a clutch for the Evo X...besides ACT. I am not saying anything bad about the company...but I haven't heard good things. There is even a video of David Buschur dissin' ACT. So I don't know if I would want to put that on my daily driver....I am going to need something soon..does excedy make one yet?
I have an ACT HDSS in my VIII that has been in there for 25,000 miles or more and I realistically have 150 launches at the drag drip leaving the hole on a 125 shot of nitrous and 50+ launches from Auto X. It has held up great, never slipped, and I think it is a major part of me never breaking a transfer case with over 500 ft. lbs (600+ on a 175) at 4000rpm.
The cons...you can't wide open throttle shift the trans above 7000rpm as easily as you can a twin disk. I don't do that anyway, so it hasn't been a problem for me.

I guess if that is the only opinion that counts to you then I can understand that.
FWIW ACT has been here from the start of the sport compact industry and helped propel it to the industry it is today. Many of the DSM racers set records and made a name for themselves using ACT. The first Evo in the 9's ran an ACT unit and we continue to make and sell the same clutches that are used on the Evo 10 that went 10's along with the BVP, and AGP Evo X's.
We debuted our clutch for the Evo X at the SEMA show last year and it was the first on the US market.
I'm assuming to be able to propel a car into the 10's the car must be able to shift at high rpm's but maybe I'm wrong. Good luck to you in your quest.

We install on average 5 ACT clutches a week here in So Cal in EVOs. I have yet to find a clutch that is as reliable or a company with better support and service. This includes all the Fashion Clutches that customers drag in from the internets.
Installer error and failure to properly adjust any clutch will give it a bad name quick on the internet these days. Yes they are not perfect. I have had 3 EVO clutches replaced under warranty in the time we have been selling them. Out of over 500 clutches? Not too bad. We just do not see any of the alleged problems here in So Cal.

I really didn't want this to turn into a sponsor bashing thread but I feel I must provide my "experience" here. The following is experience and not heresay or rumors. This experience is only with DSM's
I've have personally seen 3 defective clutch discs from ACT:
All 3 discs with springs that have dislodged from the hub assembly and caused considerable damage. In one instance (due to the owner not taking action as soon as he heard something funny) resulted in a large un-repairable crack in the tranny bell housing.
In everyone of these cases I had the owners call ACT and brief them on the issue. We were told by ACT that the failure must be due to installer error.
I can personally attest to all the dowel pins being installed, tranny bolts torqued to specs and alignment tool used during disc install.
Years later ACT admited to having a bad batch of discs due to their supplier of discs and/or hubs. Yet did nothing to reimburse all the previous customers who initially complained of clutch failures was ever done.
I will never buy another ACT clutch again, UNLESS it is the only solution to the cheap a$$ factory clutch. I also know of one very well known DSM/EVO shop that refuses to install an ACT clutch. In fact, ACT was the first to have a clutch available in the states, yet this DSM/EVO shop still refused to put in an ACT clutch.
Noize,
I am sure this post will disapear shortly...Sorry but I had to voice my experience.

Oddly enough, the same manufacturer of the discs you refer to with the springs dislodging themselves from the hub is the same one some people on here report to be the second coming of the messiah when it comes to clutches.
I won't bother to comment on your other remarks about the DSM/Evo shop mentioned because they need no further comment. If you live and die by that shops opinion, so be it.
I also see no reason why your post would need to moved, deleted or edited. You are simply relaying your experiences with our products and to that end you are entitled to do so in my opinion.

Back in 98 when i was running my GSX i got a act and for some reason i broke the clutch within the 1st couple weeks.. we called them up and told them.. 3 days later i had a new one AND a back up! they sent me TWO! ... Man those wehre go goodOdays! never had a problem after that.. ended up selling the backup since i could never seem to brake the 1st. I did miss a gear here and there quick shifting over 7k.. but i think it happens once and a while with any clutch
It doesn't exist for the X yet. There's some twin carbon, I think, but screw that. They also have the single.
I haven't launched this car on my OEM clutch at all. I am holding out for something like the Exedy twin standard duty that will have soft (stock like) pedal feel.
ACT is a stand up company with great customer service. They make an unapologetic drag racing clutch for people and offer it at a great low price. I had awesome results with the HDSS in my Evo VIII, but ran the stock clutch in my IX. Drag racing requires some compromises, and for me they are no longer worth it, which is why I no longer drag race.
In my mind, the Evo is a handling car and a trackday car. I want balance with the precision, and am willing to pay for it. I would be interested in an ACT twin disc and a pressure plate that is not so aggressive. In short, I don't want my Evo pedal to feel like a Mustang Cobra. I want it to feel like a stock Evo.

hey Daryl, I met you at the keystone show and got a business card from you. i was interested in the ACT clutch. I wasnt expecting my stock to last thing long and I think i might just wait it out now.
Why doesnt ACT make a Twin disc clutch for the evo? You guys must see the amount of people interested in twin discs. I had an ACT clutch in one of my previous evos and the high rpm lockout issue was a headache. yes i did adjust it and stop it for a awhile but it came back and I had to play with it again. As it wore I had to play with it more and more. I then went to exedy twins and never looked back. I wish you guys would make an affordable twin disc and I'd be all over it
