engine revvs a little at shifting
engine revvs a little at shifting
I noticed this when shifting up...
As I am driving normally around town, and when I want to upshift and press the clutch pedal while I of course get of the gas pedal, before I am able to shift, the engine revvs another 100-300 rpm, but it doesn't do this everytime.
This isn't my first manual, so I'm pretty sure I am getting of the gas pedal in time.
I talked to the mitsu guy at the dealership, and we got the latest software.
So I am going to try to drive a little today and see what happens.
The clutch does not smell from this, nor does it seem to be causing any problems.
Just seems weird, and sorry for the book I wrote here.

More likely it is the engine management system. To keep emissions within spec many modern engines will keep the revs up a bit (for a second or two) after you get off the gas, not sure exactly why but this is the case. Sounds like that.
The other night I was coming up to a light and I put the car in neutral at which point it the RPMs shot all the way up and I had my foot completely off the gas!
So I tapped the gas a few times and it went back down to idle.
Kinda of a fluke but freaked me out.

It's quite possible with a drive-by-wire car...there might be some lag, causing the engine to still be getting gas when the clutch is depressed, causing the rpm's to climb.

I had the same thing happen in my STi. It never caused a problem or anything, actually I originally thought it was programmed into the ecu purposely. It keeps the rpms up in between shifts. Kinda like blipping the throttle inbetween shifts to match rpms in between shifts.
more than likely your first drive by wire car. Thats not an insult as this is my first drive by wire car as well. If your not totally off the gas it will rev a bit. Throttle is very sensitive, especially at low throttle angle.
Other common reason for this on 8's and 9's was a pinched blow off valve recirc line (the hose that goes back to the intake pipe). When I put my 8 back to near stock for the trade in, my samco did not fit so well and it would shoot up about 500 - 1000 rpm during an on boost shift. Replaced the hose with the factory hose (a little shorter so it got rid of the pinch) problem solved.

I also experience this - usually when getting on the interstate (aggressively). I'm almost certain my foot comes off the gas first before I disengage the clutch to shift. I'm glad to hear other people are having the same issue. If someone else is in the car with me I usually get a "granny shiftin, not double clutchin like ya should" kinda comment.
