air filter. which one to choose?
I bought a K&N for about $50. I figured most drop-ins will give you similar HP, and just couldn't justify the cost of the Works Filter. I actually had an HKS on back order, but when the K&N came out for $10 more (and it's reusable) I canceled my order and got the K&N direct from them.
No dyno results, but I'm happy with it.

I used a Fujita filter with a Blitz velocity stack which takes the 4.5 filter to a 3 inch nice and smooth. Seems to work great. Feels more responsive and no problems at all. Total cost of $45 or so.
Of course I'll recommend our WORKS drop in. While I haven't seen the K&N EVO X filter our 8/9 filter out flowed the K&N and gave better particle filtration, plus our filters are super durable and well constructed so they will last you a very long time if properly cleaned. But the real reason I chimed in was to say that we were recently contacted by Sport Compact Car who said they are doing an EVO X drop in filter comparison. We sent them one of our filters to test. They said they were going to do both a flow bench test and a dyno test. So that should be insightful. I know they were doing the WORKS filter, K&N and I believe the Ralliart and HKS filters as well. I would estimate a good month or two before that actually gets published though.
Also we have dyno results for our drop in on our site. These dyno figures were from one of the first EVO X's delivered so bear in mind that it didn't have any of the mitsu updates yet.

i heard a lot of good things about Works too, but the only bad thing is the price.
i also heard that HKS does the same thing, so does ralliart.
it is great to have that dyno test and post it here so that i could compare.
the best thing about ralliart is i know you can give it to my mitsubishi dealer and install it without void warranty, while works, hks, or k&n might void my warranty.

seems like the works and k&n are the same type(mesh, cotton, oil) i'm assuming works does not make these in house and buys them from somewhere else. i'm also assuming that the company that makes this makes the same filter under another brand...anyone have time to kill
they are distributed by a Malaysian company.
so which one to get is the best? works? hks? k&n? or ralliart?

Anybody with a aftermarket drop-in filter hear an increase in the sound of turbo spool over stock? I kinda miss the sound of my HKS racing suction intake, but I don't think I'm ready to switch to hard pipe yet since my cars still young.
