it is probably will be a same story as the earlier versions / evo's/ . As long as you close to Factory hp level the MR tranny is better. Mid and high level mods the advantage will disappear , plus liability will be an issue vs the 5 speed.

That's weird how all testing in the US has shown opposite results. ???

Basically, however the SST does beat the 5MT in a drag race, which I thought was wierd since most people were having launching problems. The 5MT did post a fairly slow time despite a decent launch..

I always thought this 400m test was suspect because the 5mt got a whole car out of the hole and managed to lose by a car at the end. It's common knowledge that the 5 speed cars trap at higher speeds and weigh a bit less and suck up less power thru the drivetrain. These Japanese comparisons aren't exactly good ones imo. They will make what they want to look good ,look good.

these videos (at least the drag part) confused the hell out of me when the American magazines & owners started posting contrary results. Makes me want to try & launch my car now, since all I've seen are poor launches w/the SST... even by the Stig himself!

I still think a 5sp manual would be more fun because you get to heel toe yourself instead of a computer. I would be annoyed with the delay in the transmission like the video showed at the turn around point with the SST

They do in the race. Just not afterwards when hes showing the different modes.

From watching him, it made me think that a lot of ppl have having issues launching because they are trying to rev up to 5k and release immediately off the break... you can see in the video that he holds it there for a pretty long time.. He makes it look pretty easy actually.

This is bogus. On average I am seeing the GSR run 13.4-13.6 while on average I see the MR SST hitting almost 14. The 5 speed is a bit challenging to master in the car and needs a driver who at least put 5k miles on the thing. I think the driver drove the SST fine, maybe the GSR driver was shifting like ****. They both actually ran crap, almost 14s. That sucks *****. After a few runs in the 5speed I would bring the time down while the SST is going to always run the same thing.

I can't believe how large of a gap .3 seconds looks like from inside the losing car. Jeez.
