ok here is an update... after some replies.
first off.. the X doesnt have valve lash adjustments.. its direct acting.
the gsr i heard that didnt have it has over 5k miles on it
the tech told me a little while ago that mmna is aware and they are working on it. They are keeping my car another day and checking clearances in the morning when the block is cold. They know its happening on more vehicles and while i dont feel its affecting my car at all.. if its a problem and i can get it fixed under warranty.. im all for it
as for the sounds... its very audible when idling and only under full boost can i not heard it. to me i have always thought it was valve slap, but everything i read in the begining told me otherwise. now i know not to listen to you people :P j/k

Actually .. it does have lash adjustments unlike the older 4G63 .. which has hydraulic lifters .. and its in the engine manual too regarding setting the clearances..
I guess most guys who owned hondas before will know this because when the clearance is not set correctly, you get the horrible valve ticks .. Question here is .. IS the clearance out of whack for the new car and are they valve ticks?? I'm just not willing to open up the valve cover to discover that they are actually fine..

well maybe you know more than i do...
I was under the impression that dircet acting cams meant there wasn't an adjustment to be made... which would go with the tech telling me there was nothing to adjust.
I don't know what the "noise" was. the comments on the file for the work said it was coming from all four cylinders... it sounds like the valve slap i have heard in previous vehicles. if i get time i might try and take a short video and post it up.
i'm also too lazy to go down to the car to look thru the manual and find said section

Thats the problem with internet isn't it .. don't know the person behind the keyboard ..
Like I said .. honda guys will know what this sounds like ..
I've attached part of the check for this .. I think I worded it wrongly .. sorry if I confused you .. its valve clearance between the cam and the tappet ..
If it's too wide apart .. you've basically found the ticking noise .. I can see where the error will appear .. as there's no shims involved (stupid
) you change the tappets for the variation !!
Check with them if they did this .. since they said it's done on a cold engine
Thanks for bringing up this issue .. I thought it was me .. and the intensity varies between one car to another that I thought its normal too
My 9 ticked like a motherfo. Actually my X is as quiet as a fat kid eating cake.

I'm not paranoid about it and it doesn't bother me. what bothered me was pulling up to another one and it didn't tick. I took it to the dealership to at least have a paper trail in case something does fail. IMO that makes warranty work a lot easier. The tech said the car is drivable and that is also noted on the paperwork. its all good.
i'm just coverin my *** and thought i would spread the word to others on here. oh and one last thing my 91 GSX never ticked like this... i still haven't recorded it but i will

Is the clicking coming from the manifold heat shield behind the engine? I just did the wastegate mod and mine started to make noise. I had to unbolt the heat shield again and bolt them back on really good and it seems to have stopped.
I really don't think it's a valve clearance issue, I think it's probably something simple. I have always thought is was just injector tick or loud spark plugs firing, but FWIW, my STi was substantially louder than my X is and so was my buddy's evo 9 and both had big miles on them with no issues whatsover. I'm really curious as to what the noise in fact is, cause my X seems pretty quiet to me so if this is an issue with some Xs then I'm pretty sure I don't have it. Who knows, but like I said I think it's probably nothing. To the OP: let us know what you find out from the dealer. Good luck. Oh, and if you can record your engine idling so we can hear the noise that might help identify it. Does this ticking get worse with revving, or does it get muffled out from the engine noise? Thanks.

I've been busy and haven't had time to record anything. its definietly coming from the engine internals. My gut instinct says it is the cams slapping the valves or the valves slapping the head themselves. its just annoying really and it has gotten worse since i got it back from the dealership. maybe it is just my ear listening for it, but i think its worse.
