Question PSI our block can handle?

i am going to go for a blouch dom 3 or fp red turbo with 91 octane and 50/50 meth set up. (probably boosting 24-26 psi)

question is how strong is our block.

i am going for 400-450 whp and 350ish wtq. do you guys think our stock block can handle it as a dd.

i am not going to track or race my car everyday.

do you think a stock block can last as a dd in the given condition?

how many whp and wtq must justify/need an engine build? what is a complete bottom block build without going for a short block and what does it consist of? piston , rod, gasket and stud only? what else is needed to handle lots of boost?

thanks guys

I didn't know they had a Red for the X. You do know that the VIII/IX turbo won't work on the X right?

Call Big Valley Performance. They ran 10.7 on a red today.

Question

so stock block is good for 500+ whp if the afr is in good range and no denotation is taken place? so as long as fuel is enough to feed the added air, the stock block is ok to handle a lot of power?

how do you guys think?

My evo is my DD and i have the dom 2 pushing 23psi on 50/50 meth. I put down 390awhp/33tq on a MD. So it can handle your power with ease.

people seem to keep forgetting about the week valve springs on the X. Extra boost = extra pressure on the back faces of the valves = greater chance of valve float.... Something to think about.

Joe,

Is this the Ball bearing turbo? How quickly does your boost come up as compared to the stock turbo?

I wouldn't worry about the open deck block at all. It is a good design and there is a lot of material there. It shouldn't be distorting bores with the short stroke and thick walls. I know the old 4G crowd had criticized mitsu for dropping the bullet proof iron block that could take 10 million psi on a big turbo, but this motor will max those big turbos out with less cylinder pressure anyway 450hp isn't squat on these stock blocks.

Like someone said above, make sure you have enough seat pressure with that stock spring!

AMS put down nearly 500 whp on stock block and head, stock cams, stock everything other than turbo kit, with their evo 10, and it got abused through sport compact car's USCC and it won, so I'm sure if they can do that, then your power goals are easily within reach and reliable.

first off. "PSI" is a horrible measuring stick, thats just the pressure of the air, it has nothing to do with anything except for air pressure.

A T-25 at 20 psi vrs an FP3062 at 20 psi are night and day different.

now, a good question would be how much air lbs/min can XXX block flow, or how much WTQ before it lets go (or HP, if you want a goofy marketing number)

anyway, back OT, the I dont think the limit has been found yet, I'm going to take a stab and say 500 WTQ is possible on the stock internals with a good tune.

DRAG

how can i test it?
how can i fix the problem if the stock spring does not have enough pressure? after market valve and springs?

thanks guys

AMS did not have a stock block. Rather OEM pistons replaced with Ross Racing.

Later, Ken
