ARC or HKS?

Hi, I just got my 08 MR this Jan and is currently looking at getting an intake. My choices are between the ARC induction box or the HKS Racing Suction Reloaded Kit. Which one is better and will both give a BOV sound? Any input would be great! Thanks!

Probably the HKS will give you a louder BOV sound, power gains would be similar.
I`m running Gruppe M and the stock BOV is much louder than with stock intake.

So if I go with the HKS Racing Suction Reloaded Kit (or the ARC), would I need to get my car tuned afterwards? I will be adding the HKS Legamax soon too.

You`ll be fine with stock map. Do a full tune once you have all the basic bolts-ons completed.

Does the HKS intake come with a shield to block the air from the a/c fan or is it even effected like the other cone filter intakes? I couldn't find one on the HKS site.

You definately don't want to get a tune yet after only getting an intake. Or even after getting your exhaust. Tunes are pretty expensive and so are retunes. You should wait till you have most of your major bolt ons before considering a tune.

Both those intakes will give you similar gains, but like btownsoccer22 said, if you want JDM bling, ARC is the way to go.

Hope that helps

if your doing it just for the BOV sound. The cheaper way would just be the cone filter conversion.

Thanks a lot for all the input guys! I am doing the intake not just for the BOV sound but if it will make the sound, why not?

ARC is regarded more as JDM eye-candy than a performance part. Sure it improves performance, but let's be honest all that meticulous welding, logo's, etching and name plates are nothing more than 'swooshes' for your car.

HKS you're talking about will make much better spool and sound... The way it is design is like a foamround filter... I'm sure for heavy rain it will be horrible... The filter looks like for off road usage only... hench RACESUCTION
Think about it..

Super loud BOV sound...why not? Because it makes your car sound lame and attracts cops. If you want your car to sound cool then increase the the volume of the engine and exhaust by FLOWING more air, and to do that you need to increase HP. To increase HP, by the BEST intake, not the coolest sounding one.

Best intakes for Evo X: AEM cold air box, Harmann Motive cold air box, Buschur, AMS, etc.

After seeing the filter tests I wouldnt go HKS, they perform great but dont filter great. Apexi and K&N filtered the best, most kits from US vendors use K&N. I went ETS myself this week.

Some results, pretty decent test.
