Should've taken it to get rewelded properly. A welded joint with the proper filler wire and full penetration should be stronger than the actual metal.

I'm surprised to see it break, the UR piece is one of the nicest ones I have seen for the EVOX.

I tend to agree. The pieces look great and there are a ton out there. Maybe I'm just pushing the car harder? Hotter? I do have the heat shield on still on on the exhaust manifold, maybe that's increasing the temps on the o2 housing?

judging by the looks of the crack...i read that you have the AMS engine mount right? did you check your other engine mounts? and yes i think it's exposed to too much heat and it makes that area brittle..

I have the AMS front mount (race durometer). My first UR downpipe broke before I had the mount, but it also cracked a lot more.

I just got the newly broken part out and the crack is about 30% of the circumference of the pipe, so I must have caught it earlier this time. It only took about 90 minutes off and on to get it off, and with only one bolt showing any thread damage (the hard one on the bottom of the o2 housing that requires the small diff heat shield to be removed).

I guess by the time you've done it 4 times you'd have a good idea of how to take it off. Stupid me forgot to remove the o2 sensor until the pipe was loose .

PB Blaster FTW.

Sorry to hear this man, the timing is ironic though since my UR Test Pipe split at the weld as well... I noticed the leak which at the time was about 1" across the bottom of the weld on the test pipe at the front. This was the first generation test pipe from UR and has been discontinued not because of malfunction but because the gen 2 is straighter with angled flanges. I've run it for 33,000 miles on the car with no problems to date until now including no CEL from the O2 sensor. I could see the cracking though running half way up both sides of the pipe at the weld but no actual leaks yet at those...until Friday night. WOT shift from 2-3 then the exhaust had a WAY different sound...got out and the test pipe had completely broken into 2 pieces so right now my car is running open downpipe...it is "interesting" driving it like this to say the least kinda fun tho

I had contacted Darryl last week when I noticed the leak and he got me a new test pipe in the mail the next day that was the Gen 2 and had the wideband fitting just like my current one. They had absolutely no problem warranting my test pipe and the customer service was top notch. I'm still suprised at how the crack started in the first place though.

Sorry for the crappy iPhone pics but you get the idea

I'm surprised to see this. I thought they had one of the cleanest welds from all the pipes I've seen. I guess clean doesn't equal strong.

Can either of you guys with cracked welds take a picture of the inside of the pipe where the crack is?

There is such a thing as a good looking weld without much penetration. Especially with TIG welding, it's easy to make it look pretty.

UR comes though with excellent customer service skills again.

I had a PM from Darryl this morning and they're shipping another part out. He says they have two dedicated track cars in the shop this this piece without issue.
