INtercooler Install question.

So, I installed my new AGP intercooler and one thing that had me confused was:

When I removed the stock IC, I had to remove a block of steel that was bolted to the IC mount. What is the purpose of that part? It seems to just be a weight, but why?

thanks in advance for any input.

No, I think he means that bottom bracket that has a piece of lead weight glued on it. Really wierd and serves no purpose that I can see. It weighs 4 lbs in total just to let you know. Weighed it when I but my IC on and yeah I left it off too. No clue as to what it's for.
