Question ARC Super Induction Box

Is this the best intake system for the Evo X? Will this design work work better than a short-ram or cold air? Does anyone have it? Anyone have the dynos for it?

Thanks in advance

also does anyone know about the new Borla exhaust for the Evo X?

I have the ARC induction box and I can tell you from experience that it DOES WORK and ADDS power. I don't have exact power gains because i havent dynoed the car with just the airbox switch.

The downsides would be: Cost, and the filter panels themselves. I heard they are hard to find at the moment for replacement purposes. In addition, they dont actually filter that well... I found sand/dirt inside my box. An area of concern with any filter is moisture from rain. Keep in mind that any cone and/or exposed filter will be more susceptible to moisture than the oem enclosed box.

hope this helps.

Why not go with AEM? Complete enclosed cone CAI. Just a thought.

How long do the filters last? Does the ARC come with a pipe that goes to the turbo? Are there other filters that can be used with the box other than ARC's? Do you do anything to prevent dirt and water from getting on the filters?

I have one too. And it's been pouring with rain on a daily basis where I am. We're talking about torrential rain. No problem whatsoever.

I love the sound, I love the extra "boost" of power. But as stated before, the concern is the replacement filter. I was told that you should replace it in a year.

No dirt will get in --> blocked by filter. But you can open the top, to get the "dust/particles" out. As for water, i haven't checked by opening the box, but like I said, I haven't had any issues even with the bucketing-down rain that I've been getting lately.

Seems like it takes up too much space.

Good question... it doesn't say on their website either. I'll ask the distributor here.
http://www.arcinter.co.jp/english/ar...tml#mitsubishi

Just found something from one online shop:
"ARC recommends filters should be cleaned every 5000klm with neutral detergent and reused. This way you can prolong the life of the filter. But as thsee items can deteriorate like any filtration system, optimum performance is maintained by replacing the filter around the 15000km mark. "

I had an ARC box on my FD3S for 8 years. That box rocks. I replaced the original ARC filters with K&N. You probably won't find an exact match size. Something a bit smaller but sits on the bracket without any gap is OK. Then use high temp silicon glue to seal it. Just make sure to let it dry before you put back on the car. If you find the matched size K&N, please share it. I will get an ARC box for my X later this year.

I have an ARC intake as well and have absolutely no problems. Car actually runs better, don't have anymore idle problems(i have the second reflash from mitsu), and it breathes a bit better up top. Its rained pretty bad a couple of days here in FL and not a single drop has touched the intake. Well maybe the underside a little from splashes but not the top side where the filter is at.

I've never seen an ARC induction box on an Evo VIII or IX make as much power as the stock airbox on the dyno (both scenarios tuned of course). And I've seen a lot of them.

I have no idea on the X, but I would much rather have a short ram.

Any intake or even drop-in filter will make near 20hp on the Evo X, so it's a matter of which ones will run without screwing with your a/f or throwing codes, etc. Most just gain power because they force the car to run leaner. With a tune, you can make the same power with the stock box as an aftermarket intake...

Also, if you can find a japanese source that ships overseas you can pick them up for about 400 bucks( 40,000 yen or so). Go to auctions.co.jp and search for 4B11 and/or CZ4A

Im trying to install the ARC Box on my Evo X. The two bolts that hold the MAF pipe to the back of the stock air cleaner wont unscrew out, they just turn and turn without backing out. did anyone have this problem when installing an ARC box?
