Stock muffler mod {how to} for increased flow?

I know a few people have cut it open and done some changes, but I haven't seen a thread. Is there one? If not, would anybody be willing to do a writeup or post pics?

Thanks in advance.

I was just about to post this. Im interested as well.

GST Motorsports just said they "cut out the internal pipe and flapper" but i don't know what that means. They also have a test pipe on the car and said doing that made it BARELY louder than stock so i was thinking about maybe doing that. Anybody got any suggestions?

^^^ Does anybody have the StealthWorks? Can you tell a difference? How much louder is it than stock?

And if I were to buy a new exhaust(Works)- is the Buschur Quiet exhaust and actual "quiet" exhaust? how much louder is it than stock? I know thats way different than modifing a stock exhaust .. but does anyone have one?

I actually just had this done on my X. Basically I had a box cut from the bottom of the muffler (towards the inlet side) and that entry pipe cut so that it flows directly into the center area. I also cut out the flapper valve which is on the bottom... I don't think this helped flow with that other pipe already cut but it had a pretty mean rattle.

I'm not sure exactly how much power this was worth since I went straight to a 100 octane tune at the same time, but it definitely was worth something... on the same map (old 91 map) I was running leaner with a bit more boost initially on the dyno

Pics are on second to last page, and they just talked me out of this entirely. No way I'm doing that much work for a small gain! I'm either calling Works or putting my old cat-back on. Thanks much for the link.

^ It just basically shows the places where he cut.

There's also a good picture on the Works Stealth Exhaust page that shows a mock-up of the internals of the muffler.

Just curious, don't you have a cat-back?

At the moment, this car's exhaust it totally stock. I read about the car GST tuned that made good power with a modified muffler and got interested.

I do have my old UR turbo-back from the blue car, but being a 35 year old dad with window cracking exhaust volume incured the wrath of my wife. At this point, I don't know what I'm going to do yet. I might try DP and test pipe into fully stock cat-back in the next few weeks. If she goes all Darth Vader and force chokes me out... Well, you'll know why I'm not here. Wish me luck.

Noize,

Might wanna try Road Race Engineering.
You could get something full 3" w/ better flow then a modified stock muffler, and sound just as quiet as stock. Since us Cali guys got to worry about the popo's pulling us over every 5 seconds, RRE has come to be the exhaust choice for the stealth and quiet crowd. Cruising would be a nice low tone... wife would probably not even notice. WOT.... the sound is awesome.

Go with the 2 resonator sideways style muffler: http://www.roadraceengineering.com/evox/rreexhaust.htm

add a 3" HFC, and your O2 housing Down Pipe combo, and you'll have a full 3" TBE that is hush hush.
