Is my clutch going or does my X have other issues?

I have been noticing a power loss through out my EVO X's powerband. I know I have to slip the clutch almost all the way up just to get the car moving. My acceleration is not always consistant either. The most annoying thing is when I am cruising on the highway about 65 and drop it down a gear to 4th and it seems like it slightly pulses forward alittle, not that smooth acceleration like it used to. It just doesnt accelerate as smooth or as fast as it used to all around. Very annoying when you get used to how fast it is and it just stops being as fun to drive. Is this signs of a worn out clutch or is my turbo having any issues? I have a boost gauge and when I accelerate it makes boost but it just seems it is not consistant in power for how much boost i am making. I took it to a while back for my power loss and they told me that my EVO X is normal. I know this to be incorrect, even my girlfriend can tell a difference from when I first bought the car.

Is hard to tell.

But a test you can do is go in the highway and go at about 55 mph in 4th. Then just drop the foot down on the gas pedal, does the engine rpm go up with the boost but the car stalls and seems to lag and after a bit it hooks up? Then it most likely is your clutch.

I've seen kids do it in less miles than that! Depends on the driver I guess?

fuel pump issue, or boost leak i would say, i had literally basically the same problem happen mid test drive in an evo 8 i had to be slipping the clutch like just to keep the thing moving, they found out it was a fuel pump issue.

you should never have to slip the clutch almost "all the way"..... even if it's worn....

as for the clutch life, it really depends on driver.

Mine is still fine @ 76k miles on my VIII. and I drag raced it a lot in the begginnning (track closed 3 years ago). I did let a friend drive it who didn't really know how to drive once, and I had that clutch smell for 3 days.

I also, rev match when i downshift... also, i don't drive it slow, I drive the car a little hard.

My vote goes to boost leak. When you go WOT, watch your boost gauge. Does it spike then drop down even though your foot is still hard on the throttle?

rev matching is very important when downshifting; although i don't know if that's your problem, i'll just throw it out there first.

it could be your clutch, boost leak doesn't sound likely though...and who knows, if you haven't received a tune, your spark plugs may be full of soot if you floor it a lot.

Check the line that goes from you intake manifold to the fuel pressure regulator. Should be on the pass side front of the motor, lift up the plastic cover on top of the motor to get a good view. Fuel Pressure Regulator is at the end of the fuel rail.

I've seen that line pop off on two X's so car, one was mine. It will cause a serious lean condition under boost and a vacume leak at idle that will jack up your fuel trims and cause it to idle like crap from time to time.

That sounds exactly what my car is doing! The idle thing too. Ok so I have never pulled the plastic cover off is there any special thing you need to unclip or anything. And just to be clear I am looking for a vac line to be off the fuel rail and or the intake manifold??

Sweet sounds fun, I hope this is the only problem. I will be so happy to be boosting normal again. Where does the vac line run on the intake manifold from the fuel pressure regulator??
