Panel Air Filter

This must be stupidest post in this section...I cant for the life of me get the Perrin panel air filter installed correctly, as a matter of fact I cant even put the stock one back in correctly....the stupid clip on the bottom of the box on the left side just would not lock in.

As a result I'm getting a wooosh sound like a blow off valve when I drive(or maybe thats what the perrin is suppose to sound like?). Either way I just cant get the bottom clips to lock in place. Any ideas?

*i posted this is in how to as well...but I figure I might get a better response from general...

you should try putting the stock one back on correctly. Unless you bent the clips which isnt likely you are just not lining both pieces of the intake back up correctly. Try it again. Have you compared the perrin and stock filter in terms of size?

I'm using a K&N drop-in myself, but I'm doubting that it should really be any different. I suggest starting over with the stock filter. It should be a snug fit, but not impossible. I might also suggest going to the K&N website and stealing/learning off their .pdf instructions. It's helpful with clear pictures.

I Put my K&N in the other day and after cursing about 85 explitives had the same issue. Even tried putting the stock filter in with same problem. Couldn't get either back in with the bottom hinges locked.

The only way I managed to get it in was to basically with no filter in lock the bottom hinges in and then spread the top part of the box apart enough to slide the filter in.

had the same problem. heres what will fix it. Loosen the screw that hooks up to the piping going to the turbo, then undo the one bolt that holds in the airbox, and of course the two front plastic screws for the ram air. You will then be able to take the whole airbox assembly out. Its very easy to put the filter in correctly when its out of the car. It was impossible to do when everything is bolted down.
