oil light but why?

Well a few days ago i got a oil light that came on when i would start the car. I blew if off because i was getting an oil change later on in the week. Well i got my oil changed and its still there. I reset the service countdown but the oil light still comes on when i turn on the car.
So is there a way to turn this off, or do you guys think i have a problem? also i checked the book, it mentions the oil symbol with a "check" under it. Mine does not say check unless it dosnt really say "check" on the dash and thats just how they have it in the book.

Any feedback would be great. thanks.

Are you talking about the service reminder or some sort of oil pressure light/low oil indicator? Why would you blow off a oil light? Did you even check your oil? How many miles since your last change? How can you own a EVO and blow off a oil light? I feel like slapping you.

dont assume i didnt check my oil level just because i didnt say that i did. I checked it and it was fine. Right between the two dots. I got my oil changed today and it is still on. its not on full time. It just shows up for about 4 secs when i turn my car on then it goes away. i have no indicator lights on when driving or anything.

Probably its a faulty sensor or moisture is getting near the wiring. IIRC this is a common issue with Mitsu cars, faulty oil sensors. I am sure you can have the dealer check it out since your car is not modded to hell yet.

When this happens, aren't most of the other indicator lamps on as well? Every car I've owned goes through the Christmas tree cycle when you first turn the ignition.

No, not when the car starts and not for four seconds. I would get that looked at as it's either a bad sensor or your not getting proper lubrication at startup.

Yeah but the sensors, used by any car company are generally, highly inaccurate. I would say its just a bad sensor that needs replacing.

Agree, it's probably telling you low oil pressure when you first start up. So, to error on the side of caution get it checked by the dealer. If it's a sensor problem, no biggie to fix, if it's an oil pump problem........

get it checked out. the light (as mentioned) refers to low oil pressure or severely low oil.

there was a guy on here whose engine blew up while driving normally. he found that a seized oil pump may be to blame.

search for that thread.

While it's true that the senders used in engines aren't precise, oil pressure is the most critical measurement on the engine. Best to get a proper oil pressure measurement before jumping to conclusions that it's a bad sensor as there is a possibility that the sensor is doing it's job and picking up a lack of oil pressure at startup. Could be oil pump or a restriction in the lubrication system.

I only saw the oil light on when you ad the key on engine off. that is normal as its called a "bulb check" As long as the light isn't on solid while the car is running it seems to look normal .

i believe wht95scort is right, that looks like the bulb check. you haven't started the car yet and the ecu is on so of course the oil pressure is low. it looks normal so you probably just never noticed it before.
