Reasonable exhaust install price?

Guys, what is a reasonable exhaust install price? For O2 downpipe all the way down...?

After getting some responses I'll post what I was charged...

o2 downpipe is a ***** to install.......... Normal catback should be about 50-75 bucks to install.... throwing the 02 downpipe, probably 4 hours shop time atleast. So lets say 90 bucks an hour so between 400 and 500 for the entire install.

Why does matter? You should have been told up front how much it would have cost and if you agreed to the price, then there really isn't any more to it. If you are happy with the install and they performed a good job, that's all that really matters.

With that said, you are going to get varying prices. Amateur mechanics who do work in their own garage or driveway will usually be cheaper than real businesses that have shops with lifts and power tools. So shops will have higher over head and they will almost necessarily have to charge more. But even the shops that charge more might be justified because they should have performed the job right the first time, had the insurance to cover damage if anything went wrong, and just knew what they were doing.

What did you pay?

Meh I paid 650....was told upfront it would be 4-5 hours, or 400-500...they ended up breaking off one of the bolts on the turbo/o2 housing in the turbo and had to pull the turbo out and drill out the bolt end....

They kept it overnight to get that done and it ended up being 650...but then to add to it, it looked pretty straight on the lift but when they put it down and i got home i realized the tips were just ridiculously crooked. To add to it, something with the install was off and it was rubbing in three places.

They told me to drive it for a couple days and if the rubbing was noticeable to bring it back in and they'd fix it....well it was beyond noticeable, it was nearly unbearable. So i brought it back in and they literally dented in three spots on the exhaust and test pipe so that they didn't rub anymore....miraculously the tips were now even, leading me to believe it had actually been installed wrong the first time. To top it off, they charged me another $100 to put it on properly and fix the rubbing.

So all-in, 750...which included intercooler piping...which is a cake install anyways.

I wasn't toooooo beat up over it initially (despite knowing it was a highway rip) but now i'm debating taking it off and buying an s2000 again....and ive gotta go thru the whole process again. Is it worth finding another shop to take it off for cheaper?

Where do you come up with this stuff! Flight of ideas. I got shafted so I"ll shaft myself even more. Keep the car, quit crying over spilt milk and go on with your life. If you dont work on your car expect to take a beating everytime it needs work.

Installed my high-flow cat & CBE myself in the driveway up on Rhino ramps.

Hand tools only & a can of PB Blaster. 3 hours total.

Wow, what are they doing to exhausts these days?

On an VIII, unless it's rusted on, 30 min max to get the car up, and everything off including the down pipe and back.

then maybe 30 to 40 to reinstall it, including adjusting any pipe alignment issues... and that's taking your time.

Hand tools, a jack, stands, a flat surface, and a 6 pack of thought provoking liquid. ... don't even need a flashlight in the daytime.

It's almost the most basic of bolt-ons, except for may be a (cringe) BOV.

What the heck are they doing for 4 to 5 hours? Must be all of the AYC etc... getting in the way (?)

If you don't have a X or tried to do this install yourself, you don't know what you are talking about.

Removing the OEM O2 housing the a *****.My car was down for a few days because of this. The bolts tend to sieze up and snap in half which makes it even more difficult.I had to pull my exhaust manifold and turbo just to have the bolt drilled out of the hot side of my turbo($52).I made a big mistake and didn`t let the bolts soke overnight with PB blaster. If the install was just a CBE it would be cake. This was a full TBE and once the OEM 02 housing is removed the install is quite simple.Even with all of my problems I still would not of paid someone else to install. The sastisfaction you get from installing your own parts especially if you are new to the modding world is worth every drop of blood and sweat that you will spend on the job.

3 hours is too long and 1 hour well thats on thew quick side. I'd figure ramps would make it even quicker.

It took me about 1 hour and 15 mins to install my test pipe and cbe *right in between *. I mean it takes me about 15-20 to get it on the jack stands, (evo x jack sucks). about another 15 to bang out everything on the cat. exhaust is cake to take off. that was like 5 mins. then you just bolt everything on. then you makes sure everything is lined up all nice and pretty and your all done.

Personally I wouldn't take everything off and sell the car. Makes everything that just happened that much more worthless. Granted s2ks are great cars. I think you should just take it as a lessoned learned. Im hesistant to do the dp due to bolts braking and everything. So Im just waiting to get a fp red and do it both at the same time, making things much simpler

We charge $75 for catback/test pipe install.

We charge $150 for o2/downpipe install.

It is all about the dangle of the angle and the right tools.....

That includes the time I waited for the PB Blaster to soak in.

That and the fact it was the first time ever I've installed an exhaust system on any car I've ever owned.

I got Harmon Motive downpipe and Greddy Racing T-ic exhaust.

MB Racing quoted me $250 for the complete install. Pretty Decent.

Sam from Sean Ivey quoted me $450. $300 for the DP and $150 for the catback. Laughable

I did it myself with my friend in his driveway. 2 hrs.
