Evo X motor reliability and tuning potential ?
OP: its impossible for us to tell you how long your engine will last. you (and the people you talk to) sound like you beat on your cars a lot. not sure what to say; if you don't beat on it, it'll last longer and vice versa. you won't have to build the motor to put a 3071 in. i wouldn't worry about the engine failing as long as you have a reputable builder/tuner, and you don't bounce off the rev limiter every two seconds, or do 6K clutch drops every day leaving your driveway.

Problem was not in my driving. Problem is in faulty US/Euro 2.5l engine. I know a guy, whose car (sti 08) failed at 7000km. Car was stock and properly broken in.
I don't beat on my cars. I've never launched any of my cars. I just use them how they are supposed to be. I don't drag race at all. Just simple spirited driving, and sideways when it's snowing.

I have basic bolt ons with my X and have driven over 4,000 miles with no issues. Just do the right research on the parts and where to get a quality safe tune done and you will be good to go!!
Depends what your goals for the car are. 3071 with just normal driving and the occasional messing around? You're fine. 3071 with clutch drops and redline shifting everyday? Not so fine.

The clutches definitely seem to have some issues. Many guys have lost that before 15,000mi. Also there is the weak design of the plastic master cylinder... which there is a $50 reinforcement available for. At the point when you upgrade the clutch, should probably do the MC reinforcement mod.
I have not read anything bad about the transmissions... except for 1-2 owners that had catastrophic failures which did not seem related to abuse of the car. I don't think there are enough owners with high enough mileage to accurately remark about the longevity of the transmission. However, I will say that very few problems have been reported about the 5-spd transmission and initially it seems to hold up to increased tq/hp pretty well so far. SST owners face cooling issues under heavy and high tq/hp use.

The center diff seems to be the week point in the 5speed tranny. But, mitsu fixed this issue in the 2010 model.
Some cars fail and some cars do not. Some are abused and some are not. But, a well maintained 4b11 is nearly bullet proof from the factory. Ask Ryan Gates how he's doing with his stock block.

I would say that Ryan Gates EVO X while its sexy as hell is probably the most pushed to the limits X that is on the road today. The way that kid races, I think is a true testament to the new engine and longevity. If you ever get a chance, you tube him and watch him race, the kid is incredible!
The last I heard he was around 465-485 whp. I don't think you will find an evo X on a stock block and internals being pushed that hard anywhere in the country. Sure there are some drag racers but geez, I lap in a redline time attack event probably equals 5-10 times down a drag strip as far as how hard it is on the car.

from what i know ryan gates evo..is now above the 500whp mark i believe...he's using a prototype turbo kit...but not 100% accurate about the whp mark...
before with the fp red, he's in the 485+whp mark...
