Ah, missed the Dubai part.

And glad see just about everyone but the Americans have them from the factory.

What could it be they were thinking of when they decided not to put them on USDM cars

I didn't actually measure it, but you can see the stock oil cooler behind the HKS cooler which looks much larger.

I can tell you its larger than the Blitz oil cooler though, as I put them both next to each other before fitting mine

Southern California is not too far off, it was 106-108F the last few days

Does this have a bigger core than the RRE oil cooler, or the AMS?

I have no idea, I didn't know that RRE or AMS have oil cooler kits for the X yet, I know AMS has the SST transmission fluid cooler though.

Ok drove the car yesterday and something seems to be wrong:

- Usually at cruising speeds between 50 - 90 mph the temps will drop to about 150 F(65 C)- 170 F (75 C) , and in traffic it will rise to about 195 F (90 C), and when pushing it hard multiple times it slightly gets over 215 F (100 C) sometimes to 230 F (110 C), but right after getting back to cruising speeds temps will quickly drop back to 160 - 175 F.

HKS oil cooler:
- Now, even at cold starts, as soon as I get going the temp rises quickly to 195 F (90 C) much quicker than stock, and will stay there no matter how I cruise it will never drop below 195 F, and when pushed hard it slightly goes over 215 - 220 F but not by much, and takes some time to drop back to 195 F, which no matter how I cruised will never go below this temp.

Could it be an installation error? or is it because the HKS sits in front of the stock oil cooler? any input is appreciated..

Update:

Ok just came across this:

"HKS Oil Coolers use high performance cooling cores and so there is the possibility of overcooling which is prevented with the use of a thermostat (some vehicles excluded). This thermostat has high response and so is able to react quickly to changing oil temperatures. Once oil temperature reach the set levels, the oil will flow through the cooler core but bypass it when temperatures drop below. This allows engine oil to be maintained at the ideal temperature."

Could it be the thermostat?

Yes, it means that your thermostat is staying closed to get the oil up into the 195 range, and working pretty well at keeping it there. When the oil cools below that point, the thermostat will start to close, thereby keeping the oil close to the thermostat set point.

I checked the kit thoroughly again, and it appears to be without a thermostat.

A hose from the engine to the HKS oil cooler, another short hose from the HKS oil cooler to the stock oil cooler, and one stock oil cooler hose, no thermostats in between.

The thermostat is a seperate part that you could purchase through HKS, you absolutely need one to go with the additional cooler as its design to maintain the desired oil temperature.

I`m currently running the Jun thermostat with the stock cooler. There`s also other brands like Monster Sports and ARC that makes one too.

its the exact same principle. When I put a electric water pump in my drag car it was overcooking and therefore the coolant wasnt cool.... I had forgot to put the resistor in to slow the flow down. Once that was installed it was golden

A friend of mine installed the HKS thermostat with his stock oil cooler and his temps increased above the usual, could it be that we are getting cooler thermostats from the factory to cope with the harsh environment over here?

i got the blitz RD kit on my X and it work fine my temp is raising to 65C ~150 F when stopping the car after long cruising trip , under WOT and stopping the car it raise to 80c ~176 F , but when cruising 60 mph the temp stays on 60 C ~ 140 F , i think you got a problem with the installment.

The Evo 7/8/9 shares similiar oil thermostat sizes .. but the X thermostat is already quite low compared to the HKS aftermarket thermostat (I believe its 76C versus 72C .. older Evos run 80C)

You either go with a Thermo killer (tomei) or don't bother ..

For the HKS dual setup to work .. the ducting of the air is very important .. just make sure that whatever is required in the instructions is done ..

The design uses the secondary airduct (from the intercooler side) to cool the inner oil cooler while the HKS unit is uses the front duct (and the HKS unit is slightly SMALLER than the OE unit)
