yes, there was no evidence to show that it was anything other than a defect in the turbo. it's not really FOD if the object is from the part that it is destroying.

oh it is definately going, but it sucks because today is a holiday (Labor Day) the sales department is open, but not service. I'll probably have it towed down there today anyways.

aside from the weird wheezing sound, did you noticed any difference in the way your car performed at accel and cruising, or the way your the turbo "acted" just before you found this out?

It will be interesting to hear what the dealer says. Technically it's not a defect in the turbocharger as something was ingested to cause that damage so it's a matter of figuring out where the particle(s) came from and where the blame can be placed.

Why would it bother the piston? I highly doubt it'll get past the intercooler.
