Pro/Cons of stroking and choices

I have searched and read the "to stroke or not to stroke" thread, but still a bit unsure. First I would like to know what the options are? Jun 2.3, Cosworth 2.2, Crower 2.5, Tomei (soon), ???

Now my main question is what are the pro's and con's of stroking? I know stroking adds torque low and mid range, allows larger turbo to spool faster, but what are the negatives? Is my assumption correct that you do not gain any hp? Or is this a result of loosing rpm range at top? From reading it seems that engine longevity benefits, since engine has to work less hard to spool turbo and make power. On the other side my understanding is taking the rpm's into high range is more dangerous for the engine??? is that the major disadvantage??

Also, please don't laugh: Do you need to hone, bore the block and or head/manifold, in order to fit a stroker kit? What is the price for the Cosworth kit? And last what effect does a stroker kit have on turbo selection? Does a smaller turbo (Dom2/FPred), still work fine or is a larger turbo (GT35R) recommended.

I really want to get a new turbo, but do not want more lag and make the low and mid range power even worse. Any comments welcome, run with it.

Here are some stroker kits. These would still require a few thousand in labor to have correctly installed though.

A stroker kit will flow more air, so it would be easier to spool a larger turbo. That being said if you kept a smaller turbo like an FP Red/Dom 2.0 then it would spool rediculously fast.

AMS says you gain 500-600RPM on a comprable setup going from 2.0L to 2.3L.

I think I would wait until the larger companies start getting into stroking this particular engine this way the cost will be reduced over outsourcing this for a one time sort of deal.

I would say that getting a FPR or DOMII would be good enough for the 2.0L for a lot of fun on the street and track, but still very livable.

I dunno stroking the engine you really start to take away from the Rally heritage and start getting into just making tons of power. I think having a car with 380-400whp AWD would be sufficient for most people, however everyone knows the modding bug. Fast is never fast enough.
