I went to a shop that specialized in transmissions and paid $800. I wanted to make sure it was done right the first time.

We charge $899 without fluids for the evo 8/9/X

You have a couple of factors to consider...

1) Clutches are a major pain in the a$$ to install, book time has to be about +8 hours to do a clutch job.

2) Everything is more expensive on Long Island. You're going to see wild variations in numbers from people in other parts of the country.

Who have you gotten estimates from?...dealerships?...tranny shops?

I would be worth it to check with some of the local Evo shops, Adam at Mojo Motorsports (Amityville), DG (Lindenhurst)? They may not be much cheaper. But at least they know what they are doing, and will do the job right.

Book time is 10.1 hours. Our shop is 109/hr so 1100 or so. 500 from titan is a steal

That sounds like a deal! I ended up paying $400 but that was discounted 50% from the dealership since I got it done in the first 3k miles of me owning the car and they wanted to help me out. I think shops that have less experience with them are going to quote $800+ but once they have done a few like DG they lower the price since they know what to expect. Even then $600 is going to be the norm and anything around $500 is a great deal, with fluids no less!

Has anyone who's charging $500 done one on an Evo X before? Just curious becuause it's supposed to be a couple hours longer than an Evo 8/9 install.

I know because a local shop here quoted the same 8/9 price and they seem to want to back peddle saying that it's taking a bit longer than they expected.

I would say it's common for the shops to estimate it and then back pedal after they have done or are in the midst of installing their first Evo X clutch. I'm pretty sure it's not much harder than the Evo 8/9 once you have done a few though, at least that is what I've read.

I'll let the Evo Shops chime in for their take on the details.

Couldn't imagine paying somebody $1000 to do my clutch... I've done it twice now and it's not THAT bad. It takes a while without a lift, and it is significantly more difficult than the Evo 8/9 install.
