Yes he put a Black on his car..
oh wait a second, no he didn't - he put a Red on his car...
oh wait a second, no he didn't - he put a GREEN on his car...
Don't be stupid and don't try and put words in peoples mouths...
People do IC's first/early because they are EASY and look good...
$/Power says that Green will be a much better investment then a IC..
Sure the stock IC will become a restriction eventually, but I wouldn't bother until going to Red level, and even then its not strictly necessary!

My thought process based on info I gathered around here, perhaps incorrectly, was that adding an intercooler increases your margin of safety when increasing boost / timing. I know the base gains are minimal.

My initial inquisition was out of curiosity, I'm sorry it seems to have become slightly confrontational. I just thought it odd that you went with a turbo before an IC based upon numerous threads on here; I was wondering what your thought process was.

I think most people buy and install the FMIC first because:
1. It's cheaper than a turbo
2. provides some gains
3. allows consistent back to back runs
4. looks good.
I watched my Manifold inlet temps and saw temps dropping with 28 psi on the stock turbo, so I knew it was working ok. Sure a bigger IC would allow more cooling, timing, leaner AF, but I didn't want to spend $600 and feel no real difference in power.
A turbo upgrade is the best bang for the buck once you have the supporting mods to support it's airflow (fuel / exhaust / intake). Once I get an IC, I will be able to push a little more aggressively, but for now I've gained a hell of a lot of power with a fairly mild tune...only 23-24psi.
Remember the internet can be a great resource, but just because everyone is doing things a certain way doesn't mean you have to and doesn't mean it's the "proper" way, there are different approaches to the same goal.
Now let's get back on topic, and discuss this GREAT turbo!
I support turbo before FMIC upgrade on the X. The stock FMIC is bigger then all previous evos and it does do a pretty damn good job from what I've seen. Still on the list of things to do, but you could really go either way w/o too much trouble

Just drove around tonight a bit. Man, I love this turbo!!
The torque seems to pull all the way to redline. It might be a me, but I swear this turbo doesn't spin down as much while shifting. What I mean is that it feels like it's still in boost when upshifting. Probably a placebo effect though
I can't wait to fine tune it some more.
Nice results, when its all said and done what boost are you going to run? I more interested in boost to redline than "spike to xx but tapers to xy." Could you do 28 psi to redline safely on 93 with this turbo?
Get setup! This is VERY similar to what I would like to do eventually as my car is mostly a DD as well.
Do you think the 1100cc injectors were nessesary or was that just to support future mods? I have seen a few people with 800/850 on the green, but what are your thoughts?

This thread was a nice read. Sounds like a great setup. I had a Green on my first Evo 8 and I absolutely loved it...it's an awesome turbo. Sounds like it's just as nice on an X. Very cool.
