While it's easy to quickly blame the tuner, I've found from direct experience that the load on the dyno in 3rd or 4th gear is quite a bit different than doing a roll on load test in 5th on the highway from low RPM. Basically if there are any issues with it being slightly lean, or having too much MIVEC spoolup which is a combo of advanced intake/retarded exhaust, a boost spike, or timing advanced slightly too high, you will find out the limits very quickly in 5th gear at low RPM as the boost hits full song.

I've had too much spool in 5th when the car would hit the surge line of the turbo at 3400 and you could hear the turbo spool and stall repeatedly. Dial back the mivec and now it just flutters a bit which isn't a huge deal. I ended getting my maps altered by Gunzo to be gear based Mivec so now my old warmup maps actually are calibrated to offer less mivec spool in the 2500-4000 range in 5th gear and then full tilt spool in 1st-4th gears.

I've also had boost spikes or 12.0 AFR's cause a bucking in the car right after resetting the ECU and boosting in 5th at WOT for the first time. After disabling the LTFT's from effecting the WOT operation this seems to have been eliminated since now it doesn't require the car to learn for a bit to reach the +2 or +5% LTFT's where the AFR's would be more conservative again.

I'm sure if you contact him it will be resolved, let us know how it all works out!

i don't own an FP turbo, so i can't speak from experience...

BUT! yeah speak to ivey... i was up there about a few weeks ago, not for my evo but for friends wrx wagon, you know he doesn't talk much but when he did... he went into great detail about how the FP turbos both new and old are producing a hell of a lot of surge at low RPMs...
