I wouldn't call this a "wear and tear" issue... My car has 6,500 miles and my outer CV boot is leaking. I have to get it replaced soon.

Driver's side front inner boot is doing this on my car. I ignored it and I think I'm gonna get a new axle, it's clunking....

This makes me sad face.

I was fixing a squeal on my brakes today and noticed the small leak in the inner CV Boot, driver side. Better change it now than wait for it to break, and then cost you and arm and a leg, specially if you take it to the dealership. This thread should be rewritten and make into a sticky to make the new owners aware of the issue before it's too late.

You can just use a universal boot clamp.

Okay, and you said the service manual calls for a specific type of grease. I don't have the manual on me right now, would you happen to recall what grease it is? Thanks for any help

See my project/build thread but you can simply get new clamps and a needle fitting for a grease gun. Pump some CV grease back in when you snip the stock crap clamps off and then clamp on the new clamps. The whole fix takes less time than it takes to get the car up on jack stands and back down

I used two big zip ties on mine! It's been holding up for months now! No issues

There is specific CV joint grease. It is a graphited grease. Do a Google search for CV joint grease and CV joint clamps, CV joint kits, etc.

I did the same on mine so I am guilty too. The ear type CV joint clamps are engineered to withstand the necessary clamping force without bursting. CV joint pliers allow for a torque wrench reading so that
clamps can be installed at the required specification. So, use nylon zipties at your own risk. Who knows when they'll burst when their elasticity is stretched beyond the limit.

I've updated the thread to include a Evo X axel picture since this is a pretty wide spread issue.

Here is an Evo X axel, the green bands are what need replaced. (Pic/Demon X)

Did you guys had any symptoms that these CV joints were leaking? Mine makes a clunking noise on slow tight turns at full lock, but only when it is really cold outside (under 25F) and the car has been sitting over night, however after I drive it and the car warms up the noise goes away.

I believe that the problem could be:
-The aftermarket springs clunking?
-The CV joint is low on grease?
-I have also heard that “some cars” CV joint grease will not perform well under low temperatures so until the grease warms up a bit they will clunk and it is normal.

I didn’t notice any leaking but I will replace the CV joints clamps just in case.

Sounds like you're low on grease in the boot.
