Couple issues im having with my mr

lately ive been having this issue where, randomly on startup my rpm,s jump for about 5-10 seconds from 500 to 1k back to 500 then back to 1k. then the car just shuts down. then when i restart it all is well. o.0. it hasn't happened a lot in the past, but Ive been noticing that its been doing it more. also, today, when i turned my car off and came back like 5 mins later to start the car i put the gear into reverse and my car just sat there with the R blinking. wouldnt go back at all. had to put it back into park and then back into Reverse and then it moved. i hope the tranny isnt going out on me . anyone experience this? im going to try and get my CEL pulled today or tommorow

the reverse light blinking usually happens during reslly cold weather. Either let it warm up a little then go to reverse or do what you jus did.

This problem you speak of has been with my car since it rolled off the dealership lot. Dealer could not find anything wrong when I brought it in and its been like this for 3 years now. Only happens once in a while and most of the time it doesnt shut down, just rough idles for a few seconds. Wouldnt really worry about it. The car is prolly just moodie.

If you read the manual the reverse light blinking means that it failed at engaging itself into reverse. It says to put it back into Park for 5 or so seconds, then back into reverse. It happens semi-frequently on mine but I don't consider it a big deal. Just make sure to tell service people that if it happens then put it back into park for a little bit then try again

What year is your EVO X? I've had a similar issue like this before, however, I brought it back to the dealership to get the ECU reflashed and updated. It helped, but ever since the trip to the dealership, its only happened once or twice...

Btw, I have an 09 MR...

My 08 MR had the 'idle" issue too. I went to the dealership and got my ecu reflashed but I still had idle problem afterwards. I finally got a dyno tune after I got a drop in filter and a CBE. My tuner stated that he ran into a lot of these "idle" issues with the 08 MRs. It had to do with running too rich out of the factory, so he changed the a/f r to 10.5 to "lean" it out a little bit. That resolved the issue. Maybe that's what running into. IDK though since I'm not a tunner. I would suggest to talk to a local tuner in your area. GL

I've also had issues with idles, and my car is 100% stock. There's a thread on here about fixing some kind of vacuum line that might fix it. I don't remember where it is, some searching my find you what you're looking for.

I had this problem since the day I brought my car. I took my car to the dealer about 5 times because of this with no solution to the problem.

I have recently upgraded my turbo with supporting mods and since then I haven't received this problem yet but then again I only had this new upgrades for about 2 months now.
