Future build questions
How's it going everyone. Just picked up an '08 GSR, coming from a '07 WRX with STi swap, among other things. Already, I am getting the modding bug. As it sits now, it has a cat back exhaust. I don't know what kind, but from my research, I am thinking it is a ETS quite cat back.
So, as of now, I have like 5 grand to spend. I have an idea of what I want to do, but my question is reguarding the clutch. The car has like 33,000 miles on it. The clutch seems fine, but from my research, it seems like it might start to go some time soon. If I accelerate hard, I can sort of get a quick wiff of burnt clutch. It doesn't seem like it is slipping that bad, but I feel as if it might soon.
Is it worth it to spend the money to replace the clutch to a higher end model (was thining ACT 6-puck, but I have already done my research on that), or to just keep on doing other stuff and gather some money when it completly goes. There is a turbo build in the future, but I am also not quite sure if I will have the cash ready when the clutch decides to go. Or, I could just buy the clutch now, and put it aside for the future. Any ideas?

The clutch usually needs to be upgraded when you start throwing bolt ons or launching the X. The problem with going with a heavy duty pressure plate is the master cylinder on the X is prone to breaking from the excess pressure. We ran a twin disc and now a triple disc where the pedal pressure is OEM like and never had a problem with the master cylinder, but they are pretty expensive.
If you do go with an ACT or something similar take a look at the SSP or Magnus clutch master cylinder upgrade.
Thanks!
Michael
