evo x turbo hotside
evo x turbo hotside
well i'm changing my downpipe and i broke 2 bolts. now i'm trying to take out the hotside only not the whole turbo, does anyone have any tips on taking out the hotside?
It's a bit of pain, you have to get at the support bracket bolt that is under the turbo and bolts into the hotside. You need a shallow 14mm flex bit to get at it from the bottom... it needs to be shallow and have the flex section built in to allow it to seat on the bolt head and still be able to turn.
First you should make sure the bolt on the center section vband is accessible with the turbo in place. if not your not gonna get very far. If it is attack that bolt on the bottom and be VERY careful not to shear it off.... or buy a bunch of very had drill bits and a good screw extractor.
If you can reach the vband bolt and get the bottom side bolt out, your home free, just make sure to support the hotside as you break the two halves free.. may need to tap the joint a few times.... don't let the hotside hit the exhaust wheel.
