Downpipe or not on stock turbo?

My question is, should I get a downpipe or not if I'm on the stock turbo. I have a HFC and CBE, AEM intake, intercooler hard pipe and a Cobb AP. in the future I may move to a fp green but not for a while. Is it worth getting a downpipe with the stock turbo or not. If so will there be a difference between a short downpipe vs. a long or widemouth?

I have really enjoyed my ETS DP, I would recommend getting it if you are 100% on getting a stock frame turbo like the FP Green. If your not 100% then hold off until you make your turbo purchase.

personally I would NOT bother..

wait until you change out the turbo and then do both at the same time..

unless you have lots of money to waste on unnecessary labour, in which case just go with the bigger turbo now...

That is a very nice comparison, Kracka. Always nice to see before afters with only one changed part. I'm guessing they were able to squeeze that extra half pound of boost in because of the O2 pipe.
It also makes me feel pretty good that I won't be missing too much by keeping the stock O2 with my coming setup: the Akuma ICP/intake kit, synapse diverter, and ETS HFC and V2 quiet version exhaust. BTW, you have a very strong graph there. I'm jealous cuz we don't have near as much air up here in CO, so I know I'll be down a good bit.

Boost curves were nearly identical, but if you look very closely you'll see that my tune with the stock o2/dp actually had a tiny bit more peak boost and high-RPM boost. For all practical purposes though they can be considered identical with a small margin of error.

NICE Kracka! That answers my question, too. Seems to not be worth the time/money for stock turbo applications (me). I'll just go with a TP and CBE.

Glad you got your answer! It's a completely personal decision; I'm very glad I did it and honestly I'd do it again. 9whp here and 10whp there, etc. can make for a very impressive stock turbo/pump gas car

If you really want the absolute most out of the stock turbo, go for it! Otherwise it is a very nice thing to do in conjunction with a turbo upgrade.

I found a deal locally for 400 installed! That is why I ask, will there be a big difference between a short or lo g downpipe. Like cobbs version vs. Map or rexpeed?

Full o2-elim downpipe is the way to go. I have the MAP downpipe and I love it!

performance wise there is some increase from short to o2 elim. also it is a different beast to install. the short takes probably 20 min( 2 bolts on each end, soak with liquid wrench).. o2 elim, takes anywhere from 3-7 hrs if doing your self. mine took 7 hrs, just because had hard time getting the last bolt off. if your going short, do the work yourself, and save some cash. if doing the o2 elim, it is your choice. I personally feel if a person does most of their own wrenching, they not only learn but appreciate more what goes into building and modifying cars.

I got a friend that installed my map dp for $200 and it took him literally under 3hrs. I think its not worth getting a dp if your paying the typical labor charges.
