Garrett ball bearing GT3071R VS FP RED
I know I am bumping an old thread, but I am trying to decide between the FP Red and the Garrett GT3071R turbos for my next upgrade. Vics, how is your setup going, still running strong?
Just out of curiosity, how did you come to this conclusion? I know FP has a dyno graph with boost on their website for the Red, but I have not come across a dyno graph for the GT3071R yet. Do you have anything showing a comparison between these two turbos? Thank you!
I was on the same boat for a while and finally decided to go with the garret. I'm very happy with the results of course, over time I've had to start adjusting to supporting mods, for example clutch fuel injection and so on. unfortunately i don't have a dyno sheet on my computer but here is a little bit of what I experienced as we were tuning.
I have a 11 WW Evo x GSR.
Mods:
Cobb cold and hot intercooler piping
AMS widemouth
AMS catless full exhaust
AMS intercooler
AMS clutchmaster cylinder ring
Kelford B cams and spring
Garret GT3071R
Walbro 255 fuel pump with install kit
ARP head studs
AEM wideband
AEM tru boost controller
Fuel: 93 octane pump
Dyno: Mustang dyno
So, we ran the first pull. base run was 290wHp (estimated dynojet reading 353whp) don't remember the torque.
We than moved the boost up to 17lbs and jumped to 377wHp don't remember the torque (estimated dynojet 459hp). Very surprised.
we than set the boost at 21 and gave us 425HP with 380TQ (estimated dynojet 518hp). unfortunately the BOV and the westgate caped us there. We increased the pounds and the car actually dropped power, but increased torque. it will be on hold until a retune once both DV and westgate are installed along with some other minor stuff.
hope this gives you a little bit to think about. I have heard that in the past the gt30s were having lots of problems, but no joke i installed all theses parts when my car had about 2k miles. i currently have 17k miles on the car and have not had one single problem other than as i mentioned previously supporting mods like clutch slipping and what not.
