TC or trans?

*Updated!!

I just noticed a new noise while driving, only 12k miles and DD 45miles a day. Noise is loudest at 40-50mph. Sounds like a noisy differential, especially since the noise is only there under light to medium load. No noise coasting or with the clutch pressed.
I've read a few other similar cases, most were the TC and another was a bad trans. What do you think? Thanks

My car started to sound like that. Get underneath your car and check the transfercase oil levels, take video for evidence or pictures just in case. The T-case is only suppose to have .9 quarts of oil. open the filler plug and see if any excess comes out.

Yea it is a small world...seems like a lot of people started to leave after I left...Harry, Aaron, TJ, etc.
When did you buy the X? any plans for it?

Good luck, unfortunately I have a lot of mods and am very reluctant to take it to a dealer...Ill wait till I get back from Marine Corps training..my Tcase was overfilled from the factory which is what probably damaged it, but since I drained it and put in some synthetic lucas oil fluid, it seemed to help out quite a bit...basically postponing the inevitable.

Update!

I took it to a dealer and they drove my car and another 10' GSR, they agreed the noise was abnormal. They found a large quantity of metal in the transfer case and isolated the noise to there also. They replaced the TC, flushed the trans and diff fluids. I picked it up and drove 1/2 mile just to see the noise was still there. I brought it back and they drove it again, confirming once again that the noise is abnormal and unacceptable. I'm now waiting on a mitsu rep to show up at the dealer and drive my car before they authorize a trans for it. Its been well over 3 weeks since the TC was replaced and still no word, its starting to feel a little like they are blowing this off. Meanwhile the noise is getting louder now, it can now be heard at all speeds up to about 65 even with the radio on, it now whines and makes a growl/whirring type of noise at lower speeds. Its unlike the normal 1,2 gear whine that all these cars have. Hoping to hear something soon.

The car has been at the dealer for almost 2 weeks now. Inspect by the local rep and a mitsubishi technician from their techline support. They drained all fluids and found extremely dark fluid from the rear diff. They ordered the parts and performing a complete rebuild of the rear diff, which is now an option instead of complete replacement.

That's garbage. I just had my TC replaced and I'm worried about additional problems. They've got to know the extent these problems are occuring and that the reason is poor quality control on their end. They should be doing everything they can to replace damaged parts quickly. I paid for a new car, not one with 20k miles and rebuilt drive train.

Sorry. Rant over.

I consider myself a pretty easy going person, but the different types of information I've been getting from the dealer is driving me up the wall. I call to check progress on repairs and get more details, I found out that they are not repairing or replacing the rear diff. They are removing the trans to rebuild the front diff. It would be nice to get the correct information the first time! I'll probably pick the car up and it will say the transmission was replaced, who knows at this point. I am thankful that they are even performing all these repairs under warranty.
