Akuma Motorsports: Akuma pipe kit vs the competition.

We recently had a customer come in with a intercooler pipe kit he bought on line. He and I were talking and he asked if any kit was better than another or was it just a preference for the consumer based on looks. I actually get this question often so I wanted to take some time to show why we chose to make our kit to the specs it is at and why it is a better choice.

It is often easier to show some differences with pics, rather than just a list or Product A vs Product B. There are a few things that are important when choosing an intercooler kit or intake system. I will try and lay these out in bullet form, so it is easy to digest.

Intercooler, (in order of importance):
-Fin density(surface area to volume ratio)...more surface area the better
-Dimensions
-fitment
-materials

IC Pipe and intake design(no particular order):
-Open radius bends
-Length and diameter
-materials(certain materials will dissipate heat better and have better
weight characteristics)
-craftsmanship, fit, finish
-MAF placement(for intakes): the MAF should be at the end of the longest
straight if possible. The idea is to keep the airflow as straight(minimize
turbulance) as possible

With this in mind, I did a comparison to a leading brand in the community. This is not a thread to knock the other kit, rather I want to show the idea behind why our kit is engineered the way it is.

Overview:

All fittings are welded onto the pipe, and solid construction

Bends are keep as open as possible to encourage minimal turbulance and increased velocity. Think about running down a hallway...which can you run faster..90deg turns or 45degree turns
Nomex couplers are chosen for their superior strength and heat resistant properties. We also use T Bolt clamps for add boost potential.

Smooth flow and only one weld on the weld on the entire kit!!
the intake:
The Cold Side is 2.75" and all the Aluminum is very high grade, made is USA

The kit is very competitively priced. I am not going to put pricing in this thread, but if you like what you see and are interested in hearing more or want a price, shoot me a PM or email John@AkumaMotorsports.com.

Once the E Commerce store is up, we will offer this kit with an ETS intercooler core as well!!

Regards,

John

Thanks. We are very proud of the kit, and think it is a great option for the Evo X guys.

It's been a pleasure working with John on this venture. He has been a stand up guy and a shop I would highly recommend. Plus he is pairing his product with an ETS intercooler. You can't go wrong!

Thanks again for your support!

Sure can. We just got a cutter for vinyl(plotter), so we can offer all sorts of goodies. The ETS cores are also available. This kit will work with any of the ETS FMIC options. We found that ETS has it right. Their customer service is great, and the cores are spot on. Fitment is excellent, and more importantly the core has fantastic fin density for superior cooling. This made the ETS core an easy decision to make.

Thanks DWhit. I agree, it is amazing how much of a difference the Nomex couplers make. We have 7 kits left in stock. 3 Silver Anodized(powder coat) and 4 Gloss Black (powder coat).

Regards,

John

The kit does fit the MR, however I have not test fitted it with the deep pan. Do you have any measurements as to how much further it sticks out versus the stock unit?

I love the looks of this kit. Great craftsmanship. I bought the Nisei kit a long kit ago though. Can ya'll do custom colors on the piping? I guess the intake pipe/UICP/LICP is all available? I might have to switch to this kit eventually if I can find the funds..

As stated above, it will fit any core that has the same outlet placement as stock.
