I'm having this problem somewhat intermittently.

I've got a short shifter on the car. Think they'll give me a problem with that and the warranty?

This happens in my car when parked sometimes. I have to let the wheels roll a bit and it slides into reverse. Been like that since new pretty much. Hope it doesn't stop working

If you cannot get the car into reverse with the car off, it is not a clutch disengagement problem.

I say send it off to jacks or shep and have the tranny rebuilt. Then at least you'll have a stronger transmission..

This is an easy fix. I had it happen and drove the car for a month with no reverse! Then some one told me just move the shifter from 1st to 2nd to 4th then Reverse, and it freed it up. So weird since I thought I had tried every combo.

In case that doesn't work:

And that worked for you ? No more issues with reverse?

In my case, yes. Bad synchros and gear, I believe. That was a few years ago.
Although, the repair lasted 2 weeks. Since, the most shops don't warranty s**t.
They claimed the new synchro was bad, and charged me another $500 to drop the tranny and re-do. Unscrupulous shop to say the least. There are a handful of shops in the country qualified to work on these cars. Thats the biggest problem with these machines.

So replacing the synchros may or may not hold up? It's like a gamble in my case. Spend 900-1200 to get that done, or send it to shep to rebuild for the same price?

Do you own an Evo 10?

This was on my 8. I think in im my case it was installation error. It held up fine once it was done right. How many places are going to admit installation error and not blame the parts. Definitely not this one. They're infamous in my area for having ripped off plenty of people and blowing up cars.

Evo 8 and Evo X transmissions are completely different. Evo X transmissions don't have a reverse gear like Kracka stated earlier.

So I'm gearing towards that , them ripping open my tranny and seeing what immediately is what happened in your case. I have an Evo 8 yes. And if you find anything else on prognosis please let me know!

What are the odds I rip open the tranny, replace the gear an synchros, and it be successful?
