I know this thread is old, but I am currently going through something similar. I was getting more comfortable with my X and thought I would try to launch it. Well that didn't go well. That was my first time trying it. I had the smell of failure after that. I don't have the smell anymore that I notice in the cabin except if I pop the hood I can smell that plastic burning type smell very faintly kind of in the back of the engine bay by the turbo.

I do feel better knowing that the clutch should recover. I don't plan on launching again so hopefully the smell will go away and everything will be fine. I know I have put on maybe 30-40 miles if even that after the attempt.

Just be careful with it. Besides having to replace the clutch after so many RPM drops, you might have to replace the flywheel as well. They usually get discolored pretty bad because of the heat.

Good example. my car is putting down 360 Wtq, so maybe 420 at the crank? Regardless it's way above stock... I can't even use launch control it just burns up the clutch. I've done it twice when I was trying to get launch control to work. Turns out I just need a new setup in there. no big deal.

My first attempt at launch on my 8 (different I know... I guess?) I ROASTED my clutch. Smelt for at least a good 24-36 hours. Clutch is fine, but i know I took a few thousand miles off it Haha.

be really careful when launching...i would avoid it if not really racing it... the clutch might not be the only thing that's gonna need replacement... i busted my lsd doin a clutch dump at 6k rpm... u have to slowly let go of clutch where clutch kinda slips
