Anyone have/make an AMS CMC review?
I have searched the forum for any reviews on this product, but only find the product release thread that AMS have posted.
I just saw this part on their website. I was wondering if someone with this upgrade could chime in and add any information about it. The website said they were sold out, so I know some of you must have them already.
Some of the other options seem to have failures. Seem that the failures stem from fluid pressure loss which floors the pedal if I'm not mistaken. Not sure if its because installation errors or design flaws, but this is an upgrade I would only like to do once for obvious reasons.
One CMC has multiple versions which makes me quite skeptical of that one. I understand that most if not all CMC upgrades use the evo VIII/IX cmc, so that part of the upgrade shouldn't be causing failures.
So please, if anyone has any good user reviews and details, please let me know.
Thanks

I don't think anyone has had it installed in the normal Evo community. Some of their sponsored cars might have ran it but that might be about it. There have been other companies out there that have already came out with this product as a more long term solution and AMS might have just decided that it should get into it all the same.

sorry
Thanks for the quick response. I'm specifically looking for eventual medium to long term users to make sure these are considered reliable and worry-free. But I'm looking forward to hearing about anything you can contribute Turpdogg.

I purchased an AMS CMC about 2-3 weeks ago and installed it myself. It came fully assembled from AMS because i opted to purchase the kit with the EVO VIII/IX cmc. Ive been driving the car daily for about 2000 miles and have had no problems thus far. Hope this helps.

I have heard and seen reviews of the original companies that have made replacements, but some users seem to still have clutch failures(losing pedal pressure/cannot engage clutch). I just want to make sure that whatever one I do buy will last and not cause any future clutch issues regardless of clutch choice. Since this one is relatively new to the market, I'd figure I might as well wait and see how they hold up.
the only issue people had with the Magnus kit was when they used it with a reproduction CMC, if you use one of those with the AMS kit it'll give you the same issue. Which ever kit you decide to get, make sure you get a genuine Mitsu CMC with it.
I've had the Magnus kit with a Spec stage 2+ clutch on my car since 2k miles, I have over 15k on it now and I haven't had a single issue with it (clutch is a bit noisy sometimes when its cold, but that's the the CMC's fault). I've tracked my car a few times, did one autox, crashed it at the track, generally drive much more aggressive on the street than I should, launched it on the street (haven't had a chance to go to the drag strip yet) and its still going strong.
that being said, if the AMS kit was available at the time, I prolly would have bought that. it looks to be a bit higher quality. the clutch arm looks more oem style, the clutch line looks like its coated (Magnus came with a bare stainless line). If I were in your shoes I'd wait 3 weeks and get the AMS unless you need it right away. but if you do need it right away, there's no reason to hesitate about getting the Magnus kit... I think Magnus comes out to be a bit cheaper also...
Thanks for all the responses. I'm not in a rush to get one, but just wanted to re-evaluate the options in the market again.
Last time I was researching this, I was seeing quite a bit of problems, but there wasn't a specific cause for the failures. I guess it seems that refurbished/reproduction cmc's were the main issue afterall.
When my clutch goes out, I'll probably look at getting a magnus or AMS when I upgrade my clutch.
Would a twin clutch be too excessive for a daily driver? I only drive 10 miles total a day to work, so it's not a complete burden. Is there a specific twin clutch that is the most forgiving on the street?

I won't be making over 400whp/trq for at least the next two years. I'm looking at an fp red/black with the supporting mods(not sure if sleeving or just rods/pistons) soon after that though. Trans will get sent out during that time as well.
But, in two years, I won't put over 10k miles on my car(only have 8k miles on my 2010). So I'll probably only get my clutch replaced one time(more for power support reasons than wear and tear) until that point. I want to make sure I do it right the first time with no details missed or shortcuts taken. I don't launch, slam gears or ride my clutch at low speeds, so I'm pretty sure I can make this clutch last until I need to upgrade.
I've heard of single disk clutches that can handle high amounts of torque. But I've also heard that single disk clutches can put an unbelieveable amount of stress on the crank/crankwalk.
Since this will become a weekend car at that point, the commute won't be a real issue. Since my commute is so short anyways, it's still not a dealbreaker.
I've briefly looked at Spec twin disk and ARK design twin disk(OS Giken made). Lots of people in the Supra groups like the OS Giken because they handle a great deal of torque with little issue, but OS Giken designs might be overkill for this application. I've heard mixed reviews of Exedy.

personally I haven't heard anything about crankwalk since dsm's, but I'll let someone with more experience chime in on that subject.
but for a red, you'll be fine with a single plate, a spec stage 3+ will be able to handle everything a red can throw at it. I have a stage 2+ w/ Magnus CMC kit and the clutch pedal is barely stiffer than stock (ACT street disk with stock CMC is alot stiffer if you have any experience with that).
personally I don't think a twin disk is worth the extra money, but if you're rich then go for it...

I have experience with an act street disc on an Evo 8. That's not bad IMO, but I've heard more people liking the Spec singles over the act singles for the most part.
Money isn't really the limiting issue. Downtime and drivetrain safety would be the biggest constraints for me.

if money isn't an issue i'd get some opinions on people that have had both, single and multiplate, I've only had singles, I was just pointing out that a single is fine with the amount of power you wanna make...
hollywood over on the other forum (he posts here too, but not as much) went though a few, and now he has a comp (i think) double or triple and he loves it, maybe shoot him a pm...
