Question About Running A Boost Controlled dump pipe

So I was originally going to go the standard route of a full turbo-back exhaust.. But i started talking to a guy who owns a performance shop and tunes a ton of EVos supras and Sky lines... He has me half way convinced to just buy a AMS DP and then he will build a boost controlled dump pipe off of a test pipe that will connect to my stock exhaust... The dump pipe will only activate when the car hits boost.. under normal driving conditions the car will sound stock, which I like because I will have no drone.. He said he can build the set up for 500.. and charge me 300 for the tune.. My questions are... Is this a good route? any one with an X do this? is it safe?

Get the DP and a CBE. Hell, have one made. Mine cost a cool $350 for everything (including install). No drone, aggressive gurble, 3 inch piping, guaranteed ceramic coating. What is not to like? IMO, the actuated dump pipe is something else to go wrong (especially if it is built by some dude in a random shop).
