Well it's been a while but I ended up putting on the stock catback tonight and it's still pretty droney. So it's either the Cobb HFC or the AMS DP causing drone.

So tired of this. Guess all that research and money I spent is wasted. Anyone want to give me a cobb DP to test?

I am in the same boat as you. My exhaust drone (ETS V2) is too much at highway speeds. Read mutilple posts that stated swapping the HFC with a UR Mini Muffler Test Pipe may do the trick.

Or the use of one of the Vibrants listed on the first page by ETS.

Coming from my S/C S2K... it might actually help to run a Testpipe... I know its ounds retarded, but on the S2000's it makes it louder, but changes the resonant frequency, so its actually quieter at highway speeds... just a thought... I have the Buschur Crossflow, and a cheap T/P and I wanted something quiet as my S2K is obnoxious as ****... but its honestly too quiet, lol...

I just want to point out....
open exhaust.... at idle

stock exhaust.... at idle with some revs..

your car is NOT to loud... evos are naturally LOUD.. even with a stock exhaust.. it is NOT going to be like a honda stock.. that are in fact damn near silent...

good luck with it though.. I have been through 6 exhaust setups.. so far.. the loudest VOLUME wise is straight open.. however the dual HKS hi-power mufflers was louder tone wise.
I am now working on going to a 3.5 inch mufflerd setup from ets.

i guess what im saying is that if you dont like any exhaust noise.. maybe an evo isnt the best route.. because you can add a mini muffler, 2 resonators and a rear muffler and it is still going to make some noise that you will hear, not to mention kill performance. ( at stock )

This might be the best news I've heard all year. Swapped my HKS cat-back with a Greddy thinking it would help with the drone. I was wrong. The Greddy is significantly quieter but the drone is still there. This makes me think you are 100% right on drone coming from the HFC (I have the TurboXS). I actually wouldn't mind a little more "noise", just need to kill the drone asap.

OP, not sure if you are still searching for an answer, but I have found it and I promise you can trust me as I went through 4 hfc's/test pipes and 3 cbe's.

The best one I found - from personal, real, first hand experience - is the T1R Sparrow CBE combined with Ultimate Racing's Mini-Muffler Test Pipe.

Now, I had the Mini-Muffler TP on with Greddy's Evo 3 CBE, and the drone was still brain jarring. The T1R with the mini-fuller TP was honestly too quiet for me. So I went with an ETS TP to get some volume back. It added a little bit of drone but nothing close to the Greddy or HKS Hi-Power exhaust I had.

It's a tricky equation to get right, but I promise the T1R and UR combo will get you where you want to be while still giving you the full benefits of a 3" exhaust.

To be clear, exhaust volume and exhaust drone are COMPLETELY different things. Exhaust volume is what everyone outside your car hears. Exhaust drone is what everyone inside your car hears. They are completely different and, in my experience, not dependent on each other at all. My current setup is quite loud at WOT from outside the car, but there is almost no drone inside the car when the windows are up.

Hope this helps you OP or anyone else suffering from ear bleeding drone.

Yeah i added a resonator, it made it quieter on the outside but absolute worsened the drone, im thinking of cutting it out and putting a straight pipe back in, its entirely too loud but doesnt hurt my ears the way constant drone does.

Install this somewhere inline onto your catback and call it a day:

http://vibrantperformance.com/catalo...products_id=47

Will solve your drone issue.

I have to admit, I was a bit apprehensive doing my custom exhaust. I was worried about drone and also the possibility of it being too loud. Wasn't looking for a loud exhaust. Everything from the test pipe back is custom bent and welded. 3" pipe to the muffler and 2.5" to the tips. I used a magnaflow crossflow muffler. Total cost was $260 (I got a good deal at the muffler shop). I could not be happier! Car has zero drone, absolutely none detectable. Exhaust note is quieter than stock at idle and cruising at 50 60 miles an hour. When you get on the throttle the tone is deep and throaty. Not as deep as a V8 but still nice.

Just thought it important to note that the custom exhaust is bolted to an Invidia catless test/down pipe, also 3". I could throw up pictures if anyone is interested in seeing.
