Looking at two clutches.
Looking at two clutches.
Ok so my clutch is slipping so its time to replace it. The plan is so go clutch, flywheel and cmc upgrade. The car is stock now but will get the full bolt on treatment in a couple months. Now should i get a Exedy stage 1 HD or a stage 2. What are your driving impressions. I daily the car along with spirited mountain runs and possibly scca later this year. Your help is appreciated
Agreed, CCI stage 2 or ACT 6 Puck sprung, or Exedy Stage 2. All o these will handle everything your Bolt ons will deliver. You won't think about it again. Yes, it will take a little getting used to, cowboy up - you'll be fine.
Man I can't believe people recommend these "puck" clutches. Here's the deal, my best friend and I both have evo x's and together we've been through 4 exedy stage two's an act 6 puck and two exedy stage 4 hd twin disks. He had a fully built fp red car before he blew it up and I have only full exhaust and Uic pipe, now listen carefully.... Get the exedy twin disk clutch period! I know I know it's expensive and you don't make a lot of power but just trust me you will go through the other cluctches fairly fast but there's nothing better in terms of street ability and holding power then a twin. I have yet to try a triple or cf clutch but single Puck clutches have REALLY harsh engagement and wear down fast if you don't use them Properly meaning my stage two was either on or off there's no slipping to engauge them which is awful for daily driving. Twin disk you can slip it if you want, it feels more like stock.

alot of ppl tell me exedy isnt the greatest clutch due to wearing out faster and they suggest getting the act hd 6puck clutch but i dont know i guess the heavy peddle is good for guys with heavy feet and zero traffic i dont know

Exedy Stage 1 or CCI Stage 2. These are the only two I'm considering anymore when it comes time for me.
Doing a puck clutch like some are recomending on a bolt-on car would be retarded...goodbye smooth drivability, hello faster clutch wear.

Drivability I understand and I'm not disputing your statement at all, I know better because I know you do..., and am prepared to alter my thinking based on your comments alone. That said, can you give me a little more perspective on why the faster clutch wear with a puck clutch.
Puck clutches on 80% of the cars that receive them never needed them in my experiences. A mild to semi-wild street car will do fine with a hi-clamping pressure plate and a sprung street disc. I have installed over a dozen stage 2 comp clutches collectively between the evo 8/9/10 this past year. All of these cases are still running well besides one DSM example that did not work out so well..
