Shep Trans 4.30 Final Drive.
Driving from Memphis to DC we went the length of TN. Its like driving in most of western WA. That being said, the stock 4.70 FD or whatever it is precisely is still coupled to something thats really close to a IX first gear. The IX is 4.53 FD, so a jump to 4.28 shouldnt be that undrivable. We drive 4.0 and 4.11 with the IX first, though I do prefer an VIII 2st gear with those.

U are Excactly right it is a great product if you dont race and just drive back and forth to work u do get better gas milage but if the car is under 500 whp not good if you want to have fun in it but if u have a lot of power its great, I had it put on when I had a ef4 it sucked so I swap turbos to 6266 bb and the car make 650 whp and very long gears and very happy with

4.687 final drive ?
2.857 x 4.687 = 13.39 1st gear ratio for the X
2.92 x 4.529 = 13.22 1st gear ratio for the VIII
2.785 x 4.529 = 12.61 1st gear ratio for the X
So the X with the 4.28 is -
2.875 x 4.28 = 12.305, slightly higher than a IX
2.92 x 4 = 11.68, Evo VIII first Tomioka FD. Luke's 90 lb wife drives that everyday

Thats a good point. If I take off from a stand still on level ground its no issue. But taking off on a hill is a bear. Not to make it sound like I suck at driving a stick as I've had numerous manual cars and even on my evo 8 I had a heavy clutch but it was fine after growing accustom to it. Perhaps my exedy triple does allow for much slipping in a friction zone, therefore making it grab more than allowing to slip. Plus I think it would help if you had more displacement than stock, I'm still on a 2.0.

I know a few people are interested in the taller FD... I'm actually going to be selling my complete transmission with the taller FD installed. Just purchased a tranny out of a 2012. I'll post of a FS once I'm closer to removing it or after its uninstalled.
Damn you I can't afford a whole trans with an Fd in it lol.
Mine should trap in that range, but I can tell you from first hand experience it would work best with either a car with more displacement/stroker, or a car with a stock frame turbo that retains good spool. That is if you're worried about power in the bottom of first gear. If you're into roadracing it would be great even on 2.0 I would imagine.
