how bad can an ACD/AYC pump get?
Yeah, I think mine is toast. Even if the motor still runs, getting it apart will be a nightmare.
Already talking to my favorite fabricator about a kit to move the thing into the trunk. I don't want to deal with this again any time soon.

1. relocate
2. a flat plate but covers more than the base of the pump
3. you gotta install mudflaps!
Mud-flaps don't seem to help. My car was spotless when I put flaps on. When I was removing the pump, there was at least two cups of crap jammed around it.
A cover might work. There's a fancy one for rally cars. Something like $600. No, thanks.
Relocate is the direction I'm going. I've been told that previous Evos had the pump in the trunk. No idea why ours is in such an exposed place. Odds are, some sales-oriented pinhead was on the design team and said to move it so they could advertize an extra two cubic feet of trunk space.

All evos 4-10, the pump is behind the rear wheel, except US 8&9 location is behind the front bumper. There must be some reason, why Mitsi not put it in. May be overheating or some law the does not allow like explosive parts or something or its too loud in cabin i dont know but current location is extremely bad.
I sprayed clear wax oil all over the pump and installed custom made kevlar pump cover.
something like that

Thanks for joining in.
Do you know how hot the pump gets? I'm on gravel and dirt most of the time, so it will be working hard. If it's just some law or the need for more room in the trunk, then I want to move it inside. If it gets hot, then I'll either think twice or add a fan when I move it. Given that the covers (like the one you posted a picture of) don't allow much if any air-flow, I'm hoping that overheating isn't the issue.

mine was going out at 45k miles and decided to trade the car in instead of dealing with it. Now i miss my evo and i rather get a new one this time and enjoy the time before this thing goes out next time.
Agreed. So, if the pump doesn't overheat when under that cover, it probably won't overheat inside the trunk. So I wonder why it isn't inside the car to start with.
ACD/AYC Pump failure
My pump went in April. I had it replaced at Springfield Mitsubishi; Philadelphia, Pa. they quoted me $1800.00. When it was complete 45 minutes later it jumped to $2400.00.
the scum bags made me wait a month to pay them the outstanding 600. when I went o pick it up I had body damage to the rear fender and a gash on the passenger door!! The service manager failed to acknowledge any of the damage; even with before and after pictures I took!!!!I mean wtf!! now a month later still no call no email from management. If your from the Philly area do not go to Philadelphia's Springfield Mitsubishi

I used to teach at Bryn Mawr, but haven't been to Philly in years. What was their excuse for the extra $600? My guess is labor, since the pump, itself, is usually $1600-$1800.
As to the fender damage, while the FSM tells you to pull the pump going in through the wheel-well, many people end up removing the rear bumper-cover to get to a certain bolt and to unsnap the harness. I was close to doing this, myself, before I did what you're supposed to do: took a break, played some Skyrim with my son, and then came back to the job fresh. I had it out about 10 minutes later, through the wheel-well, as per the FSM. Maybe the guys at the place you went weren't as patient.

All evo x pump guards that are made composite like kevlar, twintex, glassfiber is designed to X RS and they don't fit to GSR model. Pump is different and oil lines location is completely different. Don't waste your money before if you can't be tested fitment
