Deporacing Intercooler Review

Thought I would post my thoughts on this intercooler.
I ordered the 3.5" thick version. The 4" thick version is overkill for anything but stratosphere level of HP. Intercooler efficiency via increase in size by depth is not that great at all, and it further limits any airflow to the radiator.

Shipped: Very well shipped in shape-cut foam, no damage to any fins whatsoever.

Parts: It should be noted it doesn't come with clamps or couplers. The other piece of info is that you need a 3" to 2.5" coupler adapter for the outlet. I purchased one cheap ($4) and it has held up. Located here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/111415588523?item=111415588523&viewitem=&vxp=mtr
Design: This is a bar and plate design with staggered fin packs
20x12x3.5" which means it fits without cutting or moving anything. It is NOT blinged polished, and is a grey aluminum color almost like the stock intercooler. Want bling? Look elsewhere. As far as the design; I haven't seen one better. Ok the end tanks could be cast and smoothly shaped, but I am doubting that would have much of an impact on performance. Just a hunch; nothing to back that up.

Install: The only single thing to mention is the factory lower bolts could not be installed because of interference with the intercooler itself. This was resolved with 30seconds on a grinder wheel for each bolt washer (that is not supposed to be removed). It could have also been corrected with a dremel.

Post Install: I was running a custom tune with a 93 octane timing map. If I used Mobil 1 gas the knock would be 1 sometimes 2. If I filled up at a generic station with their "93", I was getting knock around 4500 and again at high rpm. Sometimes OVER 3-4 counts. If this happened I had a 2nd map loaded with a 91octane timing map. With this intercooler I have NO KNOCK with gas from ANY STATION. I was able to remove the 2nd 91octane timing map with a higher boost 93 octane ignition map. In short: the intercooler performed better than stock, with less pressure drop and a positive impact on measured knock allowing me to run more timing and boost.

Wish I had a straight back to back VD, but I don't.
This is where I bought this intercooler:

Looks like a nice simple, lower cost option, with all the performance of the more expensive ones.
