Does anyone know what causes the S-AWC Service Required Light to come on?
I check the resevoir in the trunk and it's full.
This happend while driving at low speeds.
Any help would be great, thanks

What mods do you have?

Sir Kyle Feb 19, 2011 11:45 PM

Did you have the awc reflash? Were you driving in extreme cold? (less than 30 degrees)

Basically when it gets cold out the fluid becomes too thick and the pump cant flow and burns up. The reflash is supposed to prevent that. Rear end colision could also cause it, that's where the pump is. No matter what, you gotta take it to the dealer. It's under warranty.

Mods I have: AP, TBE exhaust.
I think I had a reflash for the AWC a year ago. It has been cold the last few weeks ranging from 0 to -10 degrees celsius.
Is it safe to still drive the car until it can be serviced?

Sir Kyle Feb 20, 2011 07:18 PM

It's safe. I wouldn't recommend getting driftastic tho. :)

Pulled the code using AP
ACD C161e

does anyone know what that means?

robdiesel Feb 24, 2011 06:27 PM

It's your ACD hydraulic pump. Mine just went out 1,700 miles past the warranty. $2,000 to replace. Very disappointing. I've heard of many of these failing. They seem to be mostly in colder climates. I'm very interested to know what caused the failure. {thumbdwn}

Sir Kyle Feb 25, 2011 03:11 AM

What's your mileage? I thing the powertrain warranty is 5 r/50,000 miles. Not 100% tho.

robdiesel Feb 25, 2011 04:22 PM

Mitsubishi said the pump is not considered part of the drivetrain, so 3yr/36K for it.

Sir Kyle Feb 25, 2011 04:54 PM

aw snap. thanks. But that's lame it's not covered. I have the 7 year/70,000. And thankfully cause my pump went out at 36,6xx no joke. So the extended warranty already paid for itself...

xhomm02 Feb 28, 2011 06:29 AM

There are 2 reasons for the pump mulfunction:

1) VERY cold weather makes the oil thick and the pump burns

2) the pump is not shielded against dust and salt going from rear wheels. The mess gets into poorly sealed pump and causes motor malfunction.

My went out in 30k miles...

ToFastforU_99 Feb 28, 2011 08:32 PM

Man I hope mine does not go out. I think my warranty just went up. I did notice it coming on a couple of times during the winter but shutting off after i restarted the car. I guess im happy that that is the last winter it will see :)

Well i just got the dreaded sawc service required light 3 days ago. Im at 42k so im pretty sure my pump is shot.

What a pain in the butt. Finally have everything together for my tune and then bam, another problem.

luvboost Mar 3, 2011 01:12 PM

so is this like a common issue or just a handful of people experiencing the pump going out?

JoeA Mar 4, 2011 12:15 PM

^^^^ Id like to know this also, mine came on just recently but thought it was from my clutch slipping.
