rumor about evo X

anyone else hear about this?

I seriously doubt it. First of all they wouldn't go through all this trouble to make the Evo appeal to the masses if they were only going to sell it for one year. Second of all they would not have built a whole new platform, they would have just upped the horsepower slightly with the IX and maybe change a couple of thing and called it a day. I'm sure it'll be around for awhile. Just my .02

Actually, if anyone remembers, before there was Lancer Evolution I, there was Galant VR-4 that was used by Mitsu during rallies, but Galant from generation to generation got bigger and bigger and a more swift car was needed in order for Mitsu to be really competitive in rallying (although Galant VR-4 did have plenty of rally success for Mitsu).
Anyway, I think that the current generation Lancer is at the danger point of being no longer adapt to be really successful at rallying. Of course Mitsubishi will still be making regular Lancers, but I see them introducing a whole new breed of performance oriented enthusiasts cars. Lancer Evolution will probably still be made for few more years but obviously it will probably be replaced by something smaller and more swift, just like the Galant VR-4 was.

Mitsubishi, like every other auto manufacturer, has upsized their cars with each successive generation to the point that the Evo IX had reached almost the exact same dimensions and weight as the original Galant VR-4 but with much better engine and chassis.
The Evo X would have probably been more appropriately named as the successor to the Galant VR-4 given that the 8G ones last sold in Japan are almost the same size as the new Evo X.
Unfortunately the Evo name has been tied to the Lancer platform and has been forced to grow with it. At some point they'll either need separate the name from the platform and attach it to a smaller platform, retire it and create a new performance name on a smaller platform or create a new performance name all together.
The other option would be to expand the Evo name to each platform the same way they've done with the Ralliart name.
As for the current Evo X, they'll probably be able squeeze another 50hp out of the engine and hopefully add direct injection over the next couple years but after that they'll need to either move to a smaller platform or move to a turbo 6... 6B31T?

the lancer evolution X will NOT BE the last year / evo that mitsubishi makes or sells. IF mitsubishi were to cease the evolution, they would have most likely go out of business. who really buys galants these days anyways? the eclipse? bah. and 150 HP lancers are not exactly appealing these days.
simply put, no evolution = no mitsubishi.

A LOT of people. Eclipses are a huge seller.
