What I find most concerning is that do not offer a FQ with the SST. Also a few of us have seen what we believe is the EVO X SST tranny on the Getrag website that states it's only capable up to 347 ft/lbs.

This will seal the deal for me....IF i get a X it will be a GSR model.

That SST is going to be nothing but trouble. I would stay as far away from it as possible.

To tune on the SST version there will be more issues with the ECU code im sure....the whole thing is regulated via electronics...the manual is a manual....no electronics there....it should be pretty simplistic that tuning on the SST will require allot more work. Not that it won't be able to be accomplished but....that is going to take allot of time I'm sure for the TUNING GURUS to crack those codes.

My $$ is on WORKS though to be the first company to have a legitimate Tuning option for the SST version

Because it is torque limited. Lots of folks want to mod the car for power and the SST is a major bottleneck. 347 ft/lbs? Huge limitation. You'd be crazy to approach that number. If the Getrag goes and you've violated your drivetrain warranty you are screeewwweeed. Think 996TT 2nd gear popout screwed. Screwed big!

And and IX transmission's recommended torque isn't exceeded regularly? I'm not saying it will be a cake walk to tune, I'm just saying it's an unknown right now, and we won't really know for sure till someone tries it...

True, but in response Mitsu reinforced the X 5 speed or so they claim. Seems like they are inviting the mods to the GSR.

I think Mitsubishi have stated publicly that the one to mod is the 5-speed. Also, if only by virtue of being another electronic system, it will be more difficult to tune a TC-SST equipped car. My only point was that it might not be the end of the world for tuning X MRs (or at least that's what I'm hoping). I mean sure, you won't make a dragster out of it, but nobody really knows that you can't make decent power, fairly painlessly, with the TC-SST box attached.

Well, that doesn't necessarily mean anything that they don't offer FQ upgrades to TC-SST equipped cars (yet?). The TC-SST cars haven't even been offered for sale yet, so it's still early enough in the game that we don't know for certain. It is not outside the realm of possibility that since this go-around, the FQ engineering team had to produce 2 different branches of their upgrade packages, and they needed to complete the 5MT (best bet, probably most popular choice for gear heads...plus it plain came out first) before they experimented with the TC-SST (unknown quantity, probably less popular choice).

I personally find it amazing (however trivial and overpriced they may be) they can offer FQ upgrades AT ALL in such short order. To tackle more obstacles than that was probably impossible, and the limited scope was just a matter of risk management to launch on schedule. HOWEVER...somehow I doubt they will just shelf all TC-SST cars as unmodifiable. So long as they stand to make a few thousand GBP for each increment up the FQ scale they go, I'm betting they'll be working overtime on it.

Yea apparently the SST is bad news for tuners, I suppose this isn't any new news. But who knows, a fix may be developed over time other than getting a 5MT.

mitsu should have just built the thing stronger. it's obviously possible to build high hp/tq auto/manual gearboxes. look at the GTR and the 911 turbo. they both make big power and have basically the same type of gearbox as the EVO X
