What is Mitsu giving you for your 8 & 9 trade for X ?
I got over $21,000 for my 04 with 36,000 miles. It was wrecked once, but they never even asked me about that. KBB value was $21,000 for excellent condition, which excludes vehicles that had body work done. So I think I did pretty well.
you cant have it both ways, you either get good trade on your car or pay invoice or around that for the new car. I assume that you are talking about 06 evo, 25K is 2 more than i am getting
Well how it works is that the dealer, in my example, was giving me 25k for a ix with 15k miles. I would have saved around $2200 in taxes which means that I really got 27,200 for the car which is about what i paid for it last year. the reason I did not take it is that they would not move from sticker
. If I would have sold it to a private party for 27k, I would lose that 2200 in taxes and It would bring me back to the original of having25k as a trade in.
You're right, this is what dealers want to do. They're still making lots of money. The best way to approach this is to only negotiate the price of the new car first. Don't tell them you have a trade. After you get to your desired price, tell you may consider trading in your old car. Then see what they will do. Don't be afraid to walk away. They need the sale more than you need a new car. They know you can go somewhere else. That's in the Consumer Reports car buying tips.

So the dealer is still making lots of money, really? Please tell me how we make a lot of money when you want excellent condition kbb value for your trade and invoice or below of your new car?
Please quit draining the ecomony and pay some profit on goods and services. Everyone deserves to get paid for their work.
So your one of those people that can't think for yourself , you have to read car buying tips on the internet before going to the dealership. I hate when I meet people like that at the dealer.

Because salesmen are just well rounded people and hard working right? Then on top of that, most dealers do stand behind there word on what they sell.
99% of dealers are rip off artists anyway. Anyone who is going to make a huge purchuse should indeed read as much as they can and EDUCATE themselves before buying anything.
Hell, did you ever read in school to learn how to do anything? Reading is learning and knowledge is power.

Please quit screwing people over. If you're not happy with the price you're offered, don't take it. If you're not making any money, it's no one's fault but your own. You're not entitled to anything.
And you're one of those sleazy car salesman that's always looking for ways to screw people over. We hate to deal with people like you when buying a car.

So the last two people that posted offered no explaination to their comments, just useless rambling.
i got offered $25k for my 06 MR last year with only 2800 miles, but they did come down on the other vehicle $9k
oops it wasnt a X though

Are you sure you want to go this route? I worked the wholesale sector for years as an installer.
1 example is, how much do you charge the customer for an alarm for example? Sales guys will pitch that is best to get it through a dealer for workmanship reasons.
Fact is they farm the job out to someone like myself for a fraction of the cost. I would charge 125 for an alarm installed and every dealer in the world wanted it cheaper, just like the consumer reading the god dam book. However when the dealer charges the end consumer 499.00 for the same thing, they made a huge profit, for being a shady bastard. truth.
Now lets see, ever buy a factory part? How much is a set of Mitsu brake pads for an evo?
So yeah, dealers are rip off artist at it's best and the sales men or women are no better. Satan wasn't a term that just floats around for no reason.

I'll add that any time a sales person tells you they "hate" dealing with an educated consumer, that tells you a bunch about that sales person.

2. Factory parts are expensive. Those high prices come from the auto manufacturer. Then the dealership parts department marks them up a bit to make profit. Nothing wrong with that, it's called business.
Ok so you still have not showed me how dealerships rip people off. It seems to me people are very bitter for some reason. No one seems to grasp basic business principles. I bought this part for $10, I am going to sell you this part for $25, OMG NOOO he made PROFIT.
I jumped to the same conclusions you did, just the opposite side. I'm sorry you weren't sharp enough to figure that out.

That's different then some ignorant person going on-line and reading "life of a carsalesmen" on edmunds.com and comes in the dealership with a script they have to follow, because the internet told them to. They don't speak and converse like normal human beings.

It is called ethics man.
And you are flat out lying about charging what a shop would charge. I have installed just about everything under the sun as far as aftermarket goes, alarms/ remote starters, running boards, sun roofs, nav's, brush gaurds, spoilers, rear view mirror's with temp display...... and so on. I also wrote all the PO's to the dealer and I know first hand that dealers upcharge that considerably.
Making a buck is one thing, but 150% profit like you just used as an example is pethitic. It is people like you who make buying a car a bad experience and the need for someone to educate themselves.
So now a dealer, who works FOR the manufacturer, upcharges product even more on top of the sale of the car...... Where is your head at man? Oh yeah, SCREWING PEOPLE OVER.
I worked wholesale for 13 years and I know all the in's and out's so please do not try to tell me your an honorable business man. Salesman do not get a bad name because it is a mistake or a misunderstanding. You get it because salesmen are leaches and it gets even worse when the un-educated walk in and you take advantage of them.
As far as your shop that you use goes, chances are they have been bulllied into thier low prices from competition.... your dealer saying they will go to annother shop because there is no loyalty.
Here is another example, back in 1998 when cars where incredibly easy to work on, we would get 399 installed for a alarm/starter combo. Dealer would mark that up another 100 to the consumer. Today we get 249 and the cars are more difficult, require more parts that can be costly and more time to install. Now the consumer pays upwards of 700 for that end product. So much for inflation eh?
Again, do not try to bull**** me. I am one of the guys who made you money for the aftermarket.
BTW, how much does a sunroof cost on a new car? We would charge the dealer 700 for it..... on the invoice it was 1500 to the end consumer.
Point proved.
